Speaking and Listening
• The importance of speaking and listening with confidence• Develops their spoken language• Builds their vocabulary• Improves their writing
Reading
Reading is making meaning from print. It requires that we: • Identify the words in print – a process called word
recognition (learn the Year 4 high frequency words and use phonics to read unfamiliar words)
• Construct an understanding from them – a process called comprehension (asking and answering questions related to the text)
• Coordinate identifying words and making meaning so that reading is automatic and accurate – an achievement called fluency

Writing
• "Writing" is the process of using symbols (letters of the alphabet, punctuation and spaces) to communicate thoughts and ideas in a readable form.

letters, joining• Spelling patterns and key words • Grammar and punctuation (test)• Different genres of writing• Creativity• VCOP
