Antonym•The use of words with the opposite

meaning reveals the meaning of the unknown word.

Explanation• The unknown word is explained in the

same sentence or in the following sentence.

E.G. “The patient is so somnolent that she requires medication to help her stay awake for more than a short time”

Example• Specific examples are given to

define the term.

E.G. “Celestial bodies, such as the sun, moon, and stars, are governed by predictable laws.”
