Franz Detleff Goebel William Goebel
The history began on 30th January 1871 with Franz Detleff and William Goebel, the founders of the company. They established a company that became a trademark later on: a manufacturer of the senses. William Goebel and his father Franz Detleff found “F. & W. Goebel”. The first porcelain factory opens in 1878 and is called later on “Wil-helmsfeld”. It establishes the site in Oeslau-Rödental near Coburg.
Around 1905 The crown above the monogram “WG” marks the tran-sition of the company to William Goebel in 1893. Germany celebrates the Imperial Era and Goebel is part of it. Luxury porcelain, the dream of many people, also traded in America. Small sculptures in Meissen Ro-coco style are created in the impressive manufactory. Animal figurines bring exotic and natural ambiance into the living rooms and children’s figurines a smile. But Goebel produces also bowls, small joss boxes and much more: all at the pulse of the times.
1911 Max Louis Goebel takes over the management of the company. Educated in the booming metropolis New York, he, too, loves the art and knows to combine both. Goebel becomes the place of innovati-on. In 1919 the luxury trademark “Kunstwerkstätten Wilhelmsfeld” documents this.

1935 Enkel Franz Goebel beweist ebenfalls Weitblick.

1921/1931 The Golden Twenties make their entry at Goebel. Figuri-nes and design elements in Art Deco style capture the collection. On the occasion of the company‘s anniversary 1931 many moder-nizations can be announced.
1935 Grandson Franz Goebel also proves to be a man of vision. An exclusive agreement with Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel and the Convent of Siessen granted Goebel the sole right to make and distribute three-dimensional adaptations of the artist‘s work. The famous Hummel figurines are born and become a „mil-lion seller“ in America. For many years Goebel has been known as the „Hummelwerk“.

2009 Return to the core business Gifts and Decorative Accessories and thus back to the “white gold” for connoisseurs, the porcelain for people who would like to have the best. History becomes present and future. 2010 Goebel remains a family run business.Since September 1, 2010 Goebel Porzellan has a new owner, PM Kapital GmbH & Co. KG, Bad Staffelstein. This company has been active in the ceramic industry for many years already and is at the same time the shareholder of Kaiser-Porzellan in Bad Staffelstein.
Under the roof of PM Kapital two companies are now united which both have a history of nearly the same length in the ce-ramic industry of Upper Franconia. Goebel was founded in 1871 and Kaiser Porzellan in 1872. Both companies will keep their le-gal independence also in future.
“It gets together, what belongs together”, says Hans-Peter Langsch, the managing partner, who knows the Goebel com-pany since 1993. He was the one who, at that time, was assi-gned by Wilhelm Goebel to establish the Gifts and Decorative Accessories division.
Both companies are active in almost identical sales channels, markets and technologies but differ in their assortment policies.
2011 Goebel, the traditional brand name for gift-giving, collecting and decorating with its product lines Adam & Ziege, Artis Orbis, Classics, Nina & Marco, Rosina Wachtmeister and the seasonal lines Easter and Christmas, celebrates its 140th anniversary.
