Knowledge and Understanding of the World
As Historians
We will be learning about famous British scientists. Beech will be learning about Sir Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking
amongst others.
As Scientists: Not only will we be looking at famous scientists, but we will also be learning about the properties of materials –
solids, liquids, gasses and how they can change with heat and cold.
As Computer Experts:
We will be looking at how to stay safe on the internet as well as finding out about the internet and the World Wide Web.
Mathematics Revising multiplication and division
Children will be revising written methods as well as solving problems using our multiplication and
division skills. Statistics
We will start off recapping tallies, grids, graphs and how to collect and read data. We will also be
looking at the difference between bar charts and line graphs. Revising time
We will recap 12 hour and 24 hour clocks and use our problem solving skills to find time intervals.
Creative Learning
As Artists and Designers:
This will be closely linked to our topic theme of Inventors. We will be using the rainbow spectrum to make colour wheels and spinners. We will also be designing our own sandwiches and biscuits while investigating who invented sandwiches and the chocolate chip cookie.
PE PE is on Monday and Tuesdays –
please send your child in wearing PE kit on those days.
We will be learning athletics, tennis and orienteering activities.
Communication, Language and Literacy
As Readers: Together we will be reading the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. We will be recalling facts,
thinking about cause and effect and writing our own spells and riddles.
As Writers: We will focus on poetry written by
Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll. We will learn poetry by heart to perform and
write lots of our own for a class compendium.
Although there are some class copies of the above books, your child would benefit from having their own copy if
possible.
Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Learning
Our RE Question this half term will focus on a multi-religion and humanist unit asking: What does sacrifice mean?
In RSHE we will be working on
‘My Body’ and ‘Keeping Myself Safe’.
Any questions? Please just ask Mrs Slade or email beechclass@iceni.attrust.org.uk
Spellings Spellings will follow our
school scheme and children progress
through at their own pace. Please encourage
them to practise at home ready for their test every
Friday.
BEAR Remember home reading can also include our BEAR
project. Depending on which scheme your child is
working through, when they have read the set
number of fiction and non-fiction, they can earn their
very own Iceni Bear.
Homework Children in Beech are
expected to complete their spellings, reading and
times-tables each week and bring books in every
Wednesday. Additionally, a grid of enrichment home learning is also given out
each half term.
Home Reading Please read with your child a minimum of 5
times a week for 10 to 15 minutes. Remember to
sign and comment in your child’s reading diary so they can earn tickets in
our reading raffle.
Times Tables & Club 99 Children are encouraged to learn times tables at
home as well as in school. Please help your child learn their focus times
table ready for their test on Wednesday. Club 99
Tests will be every Tuesday.
