During today’s meeting, we will:

- Briefly review the mission and goals of the Education Renewal Zone

- Review ERZ activities

- Provide feedback on activities and future plans

ERZ Goals• Goal 1: Professional development

• Goal 1a: Changes to pre-service teacher education

• Goal 2: Rigorous, intentionally aligned P-16 curriculum

• Goal 5: Parent & community involvement

• Goal 6: Collaboration

Goal 1: Professional Development

• Literacy Design Collaborative (and MDC)• Template-based approach to the

literacy demands of college and the workplace, as defined by the Common Core State Standards

• Co-ops, STEM Centers, and ERZs partnering throughout the state to support school implementation

• Do teachers and schools have access to information about all of the PD opportunities available to them in NWA?

•Would an online PD hub be helpful?•Would it be utilized by teachers/schools?•What elements should it include?

Goal 1a: Changes to pre-service teacher

education• Classroom Learning Theory, CIED 3033• Currently: 12 hours of observation• Placed in several schools throughout

the area• Students complete case study and

extensive field experience project

Goal 2: Rigorous, Intentionally Aligned

P-16 Curriculum• College Summit• Mission: To increase the college

enrollment rates of youth from low-income communities• Offers postsecondary planning course

for students in grades 9-12, provide on-site PD for educators• Peer Leader Summer Workshop• Connects schools with data to

manage school-wide postsecondary planning & enrollment process

• Next meeting November 8, 9am-11am at NWAESC

• State Senator Broadway & Dr. Kimbrell planning to attend

• Adopt-A-Classroom update• Plan to attend Celebration Reception

on Monday, April 14th at 4:30pm

• Tutoring opportunities for UA students• Online form to request tutors

• Other mentoring opportunities

• Future Teacher’s Day, October 29• Admissions information, campus

tour, mock class, student panel, field experience information

• Coming Spring 2014: UA Career Fair for Teachers
