Eco Friendly Crease Recovery Finishing By Cyclodextrins

In textile wet processing industry large numbers of chemicals are

involved for various purposes. Many of these chemicals are noxious and do

not effortlessly humiliate and accordingly affects the atmosphere. The textile

industry continues to look for eco-friendly substitutes for toxic chemicals; to

use the Bio-degradable auxiliaries and to minimize the loss of inherent

characteristics of the fibre (and or Process).

Resin or wrinkle free finishing is widely used in the textile industry

to impart wrinkle-resistance to cotton fabrics and garments. But considerable

loss in strength and abrasion resistance of the resin finished fabrics has been

a major concern for the industry. The treatment of cellulose to improve

crease recovery and provide highly durable press ratings is based on cross-

linking of cellulose molecules through the Resin finishing agent. Cyclodextrins

are non-reducing cyclic glucose oligosaccharides resulting from the

cyclomaltodextrin glucanotransferase catalysed degradation of starch.

Chitosan (CTS) also an important Polysaccharide and commercially available

biopolymer, have many chemical attributes to make it an interesting aspirant

for these applications. Chitosan is the name given to the polymers that are

obtained by the deacetylation of chitin, which is the second most abundant

polysaccharide found on earth next to cellulose. These both chemicals are

derived from natural sources and these are eco friendly chemicals which will

not harm the environment.

Aim of this work has facilitated the use of this polysaccharide in Resin

finishing to improve the various important properties which were lost by the

Resin finishing and to optimize the new type of Resin finishing with

polysaccharides.
