Whatisit?AsolareclipseoccurswhenthemoonpassesbetweentheEarthandtheSun.Thiscanonlyhappenduringthenewmoonphase.Duetothetiltinthemoon’sorbitaroundtheEarth,solareclipsesdonotoccurduringeverynewmoon.TheshadowofthemoonontheEarthiscalledtheumbraandtheoutershadowiscalledthepenumbra.WhattolookoutforStarsandplanetsinadaytimeskyAnimaltwilightbehavior–birdschirping,cowscomingin,etc.SafetyDONOTLOOKDIRECTLYATTHESUNDURINGTHEECLIPSE!Withpartofthesolardiskblocked,thelightfromtheSunisdiminishedbutisstillenough,whenfocusedontothebackoftheeye,tocausebadandpermanenteyedamage.Useasolarfilter,solareclipseglasses,apin-holeviewerorotherspecializedequipmenttoviewtheeclipse.Otherwise,theeclipseservesnodangertothecommunity.
