PtL land demand
Energy supply per area significantly higher with RES electricity.
Land coverage of wind <1% of gross land demand. 8

PtL water demand
Water is a critical resource in many parts of the world.
Water demand for PtX production negligible compared to alternative fuels. 9

Transport fuel demand (incl. electricity) | DE | FVV
Future transport fuel demand is highly sensitive towards future transportation demand.
Passenger car efficiency is important to reduce fuel consumption in transport.
Without efficiency increase, DE fuel demand would grow in the “HIGH” transport demand.
If considering an evolutionary change of the vehicle mix:
– 50% of DE fuel demand in 2050 could still be PtL
– This is equivalent to 1/4th of today’s fuel demand
If PtCH4 and PtL was imported, the import share would still decrease.

Transport fuel demand DE (FVV + LOW)

Transportation demand is the key driver for energy use across all scenarios.
Truck freight and aviation push transportation demand in the HIGH scenarios.
Total electricity demand in 2050 may be a factor 2 to 4 of today’s electricity demand.
All scenarios would likely require renewable energy imports.

Verkehr?
– Spannungsfeld zwischen Wachstum, Umwelt und Soziales (Verkehr)
– Diskussionsebenen: Vermeiden, Verlagern, Effizienz, Erneuerbare
