Principal’s Report ~ Milly Stone This is another hectic week at Dural. We have had the Hills Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday, the Premier’s Spelling Bee on Wednesday and then we are in the finals of the Invention Convention today. To top off this week we have our 3rd Annual Art Show. We thank you for your support in all these activities.
Art Show This Friday and Saturday is our 3rd Annual Art Show. This is such an amazing opportunity to show case what your children do in the art room as part of their learning program. The children are very excited that they have this opportunity to share their work with you. Miss Candutti has been working so hard with this show and I would like to thank her so much for making this opportunity possible. It is another highlight about what we do at Dural Public School, each and every day for your children. We look forward to seeing you either Friday night or Saturday or even both days.
Operation Art On Saturday 8 September, the official opening of Operation Art was held. Please look at the amazing art work that Dural sent in for this competition. Fantastic work Angelo C-L 1B, Rachel C 5B, Daniella W 5M and Davina K 6B. We are very excited that Angelo C-L 1B was selected for Operation Art Bank. This means that Angelo’s artwork will be presented to the children's ward of a country hospital. What a great honour. Please view their work at the art show.
Hills Public Speaking Competition On Tuesday Emma F 6L, Cooper A 5R, Dana W 4R and Angus K 3O represented Dural Public School in the Hills Public Speaking Finals. The children were amazing ambassadors of Dural Public School and Angus was awarded Highly Commended. Congratulations children on your great work.
Premier’s Spelling Bee On Wednesday Emily 6H, Grace 5R, Hongyi 4M and Jack 3W represented Dural PS at The regional Spelling Bee held at Meadowbank PS. We were one of 22 schools in the contest and performed well against strong competition. Our contestants conducted themselves admirably. Well done Dural! Thank you for all your work with our spellers Mrs Dwyer.

Stage 3 Students All of our Stage 3 classes have been studying one of
Taronga's legacy species for our Geography unit on
"How can endangered animals be saved?"
On the last day of term, Friday 22nd September, Stage
3 are having an "Endangered Species Day" for which
they have prepared a class campaign to save their
legacy animal.
We ask our students on this day to wear mufti and
contribute $2 towards a great cause: all money raised
will go towards saving the animal that gets the most
votes based on the campaigns.

First Lego League Dear Parents,
Some of our students are entering a First Lego League competition next term. One third of
this competition involves a “Project” which needs to IDENTIFY, DESIGN and SHARE a
problem and a solution within the human water cycle. If you know of someone involved
with water in any way, (pools, lakes, ponds, water fountains, plumbers, water coolers, air-
conditioning, on a water board, involved in the cleaning, storing, transportation or use of
water) who would be prepared to raise a water problem our students could try to
solve or listen to a possible solution our students have created, we’d love to hear from
you!
BIG or small – we’d really like to have your support.
Please contact Miss Ridley or Mrs Ellis

The Annual Beecroft PSSA Zone Ball Games Carnival was held on Tuesday at Oakhill
Drive Public School. As usual it was a great event with a relaxed atmosphere. This
carnival caters for all levels of competition and champions participation and teamwork.
Dural fielded 4 teams in captain ball this year. Well done to all who took part and did
their best representing Dural.
Congratulations to the Open Girls Team who finished 2nd in their division.

Ethics classes at Dural Public School Dear Parents and Carers,
Could you be an ethics coordinator or teacher for Dural Public School? We require volunteers to enable the ethics program to continue at our school.
The ethics coordinator communicates with school staff for classroom arrangements, organises the training and background checks for the teachers, and liaises with Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organization approved to design curriculum and training for the program.
This role provides a great opportunity for a working parent who might be unable to volunteer during school hours. The time is flexible, requiring approximately 1 hour per week predominantly online.
Ethics Teachers attend a two day training workshop and complete online learning modules and background checks. Curriculum and teaching resources are provided. Suitable volunteers must be available to take their class each week.
Ethics classes are an opportunity for children to develop skills in collaborative inquiry, logical reasoning, critical thinking, respectful disagreement, listening and self-expression.
Children discuss topic such as: -imagining how others feel -how do we treat living things? -what is laziness? -how do we disagree in a respectful way? -fairness
If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au or contact the Volunteering Manager-north, Maria McCarthy, at maria.mccarthy@primaryethics.com.au or 0410 348 574
