EMBERS STEAKHOUSEFireLake Grand Casino – ShawneeReviewed by Likes-To-Eat
Heading from the lake after hot summer weekend, it was time to cool off and collect that steak dinner bet from the last football season. Firelake Grand Casino was just ahead, so I decided Embers Steakhouse, the Casino’s fine dining restaurant was in order. The loser of the bet was on board, so the decision so let’s eat at Embers at Firelake Grand Casino! We were immediately seated at the half round booths that allowed for romantic dining. Our view was of a gorgeous stain glassed window, which gives the restaurant an elegant feel. Our server greeted us with an extensive wine list and bread with painter’s pallet of flavored and colored butter/cream cheese spreads. The flavors were all unique and appealing. Most of the wines were in the $20-35 dollar range, welcome pricing. We chose a Termanthia Vineyards Red Wine, a Spanish full bodied offering. It was ready to drink and was fantastic! Appetizer and starter courses were varied. We tried the crab cakes and the shrimp cocktail, both of which were quite fresh and accompanied by homemade sauces. The salad courses included a wedge, Caesar, a “Signature Farmer’s Market” salad with fresh green beans, tomatoes and asiago cheese served warm, and a soup of the day. I had onion soup, which I order often-
and I can attest that this was a really good onion soup. The menu included pasta dishes with chicken and shrimp and Embers’ signature hand cut steaks. There was a Filet Alaskan, topped with King Crab and Choron Sauce, a Filet Bearnaise, and a regular Filet. The steaks all come in five and ten ounce portions, ranging in price from $15.95 to $29.95. Add approximately $10.00 for a six ounce lobster tail. There’s also a ribeye and strip, and on Saturday evenings prime rib. We had the large filet bearrnaise and it was melt-in-your-mouth, with just the right flame. The feature for the hungry man or woman was the Sunday Evening “Home Cooking” entree. For just $14.95, we were treated to chicken fried steak, catfish, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, and biscuits and gravy. Some of the meal is served family style, and is available every Wednesday night (German) and Thursday night (Italian). Children can order this entrée and pay only $6.95. Other specials offered by Embers include Wednesday and Thursday 10 oz. ribeye steak specials for $19.95, and regular Chef specials which are mostly prime rib based- our group enjoyed the prime rib melt- a prime rib sandwich served with carmelized onions and melted swiss cheese. There’s also a prime rib quesadilla and a prime rib baker. Not to be forgotten is a generous boneless pork chop marinated in a special bourbon sauce, and for fish lovers grilled or cedar plank salmon, a catch of the day, King Crab legs and fried shrimp and catfish. Side dishes at Embers are plentiful and many of the entrees come with sides. We especially enjoyed the fresh Embers green beans and risotto rice. There’s also a vegetable bake, sautéed mushrooms and three kinds of potato. The sides were large enough for two and were all very well received. The dessert menu changes often, but on our visit it included chocolate, berry and cheesecake themes. Our evening ended with a very affordable check. Embers is open 5-10 pm Wednesday-Sunday. The restaurant allows its customers to purchase meals with Player’s Club Points. Let’s Eat!
