THE OPTIMIST CREED

Promise yourselfTo be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

PURPOSES OF AN OPTIMIST CLUBTo develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenants of the Optimist Creed; To promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; To inspire respect for law;To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; To aid and encourage the development of youth in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, the community, and the world.

Mission/Vision StatementBy providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in kids /children.

YOU ARE THE BEST

I am totally blown away by the talent that we have in this District Leadership. Through the past year in my travels to over 40 clubs I was equally impressed by the diversity that each of the clubs in the CO/WY District embraced. I was amazed by the efficiency that these clubs displayed in managing their projects no matter how large or small their numbers were. Kids are benefitting from this, many kids that need our help and our talents. We must keep moving forward in finding new and creative ways to increase our membership so that we can help even more kids in our District.

I want to give a special shout out to those Optimists who have volunteered for their respective leadership roles this year. These people do not have to do this but they have come forward for the love of doing the right thing. I encourage all members to give a special thanks to these leaders for taking out more of their time and effort to promote the world of Optimism.

I want to also thank Paul Simon and Nicole Powell for taking their time to putting this directory together. This is not an easy job to undertake and my hat is off to them for helping with it.

I want to encourage each and every one of you to have the best year possible in helping the kids in your community. I want to encourage you to make a new friend of an Optimist this year. Hug each other and encourage each other. I encourage you to not be the best-kept secret in your community but to shout it out and let everyone know that you are making a difference and that you care for the youth of your community and that you truly want to BRING OUT THE BEST IN KIDS, IN YOUR COMMUNITIES AND IN YOURSELVES. – 2015-2016 Gov. Curt Merrill
