DIRA-GREEN is a cooperative project in the EU's Seventh Framework Programme, in the 'Research for SME Association' call. The DIRA-GREEN project (Contract no.286803) started on 1st October 2011 with participation of 13 partners from 7 European countries.
„Enable the powder metallurgy process to expand to new markets with more reliable parts and lower manufacturing costs through the inspection of green parts”
OverviewEuropean Powder Metallurgy SMEs are having difficulty being competitive in producing high quality, cost-efficient parts, especially for applications with demanding mechanical properties.DIRA-GREEN project is aimed to develop an effective non-destructive technique using Digital Radiography, enabling online quality assurance of ‘green parts’, by monitoring porosity, and identifying microscopic cracks.
ObjectivesTo create a unique inspection tool prototype for control of defects in ‘green parts’ that is:•reliable (resolution of 1% in density, and flaws of 0.5 mm – the accuracy required by the industry according to EPMA), •low cost (price to be below €100.000),•cost effective (avoiding defected part sintering saves resources and material)•rapid (seven parts per minute), •easy to use (automated),
Benefits The availability detecting ‘green part’ defects would result in increasing of European P/M SMEs’ competitiveness, by cost reduction and improvement of powder metallurgy parts reliability.
"The research leading to this project has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme managed by REA-Research Executive Agency ([FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement no 286803".
