Training Objectives

You will leave today’s workshop:

• With a better understanding of design thinking

• Ready to facilitate Design For Change projects

at your school or organization

• Knowing that you’re part of something powerful

Children use a simple process of

FEEL

( anything that bothers them)

IMAGINE

( brainstorm ways to make it better )

DO

( implement the act of change )

SHARE

( send the stories to inspire others )

The best way to

learn is…

to DO!!

1. On your paper, answer

What BOTHERS you? (inside your school classroom or playground)

2. Why does it bother you?

3. As a group, pick one problem that your group feels most passionate about.

4. For the problem selected, each person write down HOW do you think it occurs?

Break Time!

But enough

Talking!

It’s Time to DO!!

What would the IDEALwallet look like?

1. Answer:Who did you see as people involved in the problem?

2. Brainstorm- LOTS OF IDEAS, the CRAZIER the better!- Share ideas, LISTEN to team members -Write down all ideas on post-it notes / in workbook

3. Select-Which idea(s) address the root cause of the problem? -How will you know if the idea(s) will work?

• Example Problem: Name Calling

• Why does it happen?

Low Self esteem -> wanting attention -> peer pressure -> name calling

Design solutions for the ROOT CAUSE.

Remove the root cause, and you remove the problem

Design Thinking Process

SHARE

**SUBMIT your videos to dfclaos@gmail.com by May 14th.

Document your story. 3 min video to show your –feel – imagine – do – stages.

If any students know how to take photos/video and edit videos let them do it. If not, let them learn.

Easy to use Windows Movie Maker (comes with Windows). For MAC, use iMovie.

MS Powerpoint is OK too, but not as compelling as video.

Upload your video(s) to youtube. Send us the link.

Break Time!

What Next?
