Part 1. I set out to change the perception of concrete. By creating patterned designs, I brought a homely interior feel to an otherwise ugly and harsh material. Using textured concrete as physical cues to represent an interior space, I created an invisible interior within lively London Borough Market. I looked to bring the comforts of home to the cold open market, and provide places for visitors to enjoy the market’s produce over 8 chosen sights. Inspired by the historic Victorian market, I continued to develop my concrete casting techniques, casting elements of the Victorian home in concrete and placing them within the market. By doing this I challenged what an interior is, within an exterior environment, by creating an indoor living area in the outdoor market.
