Berchmans Boys Giving Thanks
Feast of St. Nicholas – Red and Green Free Dress with Donation for St. Jude’s
Students are invited to enjoy a non-uniform day on Thursday, December 4, two days before the
feast of St. Nicholas, with a donation to support St. Jude’s hospital.
Christmas at Coteau Shopping
Students in PK-4th grade do not shop at Christmas at Coteau during the school day. They
remain in class and pursue their usual learning experiences. Parents are asked to refrain from
checking students out before the end of the school day.
We will allow the 5th
and 6th,
graders the opportunity to browse and shop during Christmas at
Coteau on Friday, December 5. Their teachers will monitor them during their shopping times.
There are very few items for sale that appeal to boys, but perhaps they can shop for the women in
their lives - their mothers, sisters, and grandmothers.
Primary students (Pre-Kindergarten-4th
grade) will sing a Christmas carol for guests at the
gourmet luncheons. They are asked to wear formal uniform.
Please remember to send a note if there are changes in transportation from school on
Friday afternoon.
Advent Giving Programs
Primary School - Birthday Party for Jesus: Students are invited to bring a new, unwrapped
item that a child might need or want (clothes, books, toys, baby items.) These items will be
collected and shared with children in need in our community. Students are also invited to bring
gently used toys, games, or clothes to be given to those in need. Items should be brought to
school by Wednesday, December 17.
Prep School – Collection of Items for St. Joseph Diner and Shelter
Prep students are asked to donate toiletries such as shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, mouthwash,
dental floss, soap, razors and shaving cream, and powder.
Christmas Exchange: Each Primary student (Pre-Kindergarten-4th
grade) is asked to bring
an age-appropriate book that is gift- wrapped to exchange with a classmate during the class
Christmas breakfast celebration on Friday, December 19. Please do not label gifts. Parents
are asked to refrain from sending additional gifts/treats for classmates.
Cold Weather Uniform Reminder
Please remember to send your sons to school in appropriate clothing on cold days. Uniform
fleeces and sweatshirts are available in the bookstore. Coach highly recommends the hooded
sweatshirt or a hat for P.E. Sweaters, sweatshirts, and fleeces without the Berchmans logo are
not allowed. Jackets may be worn over uniform items for outdoor activities but are to be taken
off while indoors. “Hunting” jackets are not allowed. This includes camouflage and bright
orange outerwear.

Winter Musical – “Smokey Joe’s Cafe!
Your sons started working on the Berchmans Winter Musical in Mr. Hample's music class this week. The
musical is called "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and features rock and roll songs from the 1950s.
The musical will be performed in the Sacred Heart Auditorium on Tuesday, February 10. There will be 2
performances that day, one at 9 a.m. (for grandparents and friends who wish to attend) and one at 6:30
p.m. (for parents and siblings). All Berchmans students from grades PK through 6 are required to be at
school for both performances. If your son cannot be there on February 10 for any reason, please let Mr.
Hample know as soon as possible so he can plan accordingly.
All boys will need to bring a costume from home. The costumes can be as simple as a plain white T-shirt
(no pictures or logos), blue or black jeans, and plain sneakers such as Converse (Adidas-style sneakers are
too modern) or black dress shoes. Black leather jackets and/or motorcycle boots are ideal but certainly not
required. Black pegleg pants and a white or red dress shirt are another option. Elvis get-ups are OK, but it
should be the rebellious "young Elvis," not the rhinestone-and-jumpsuit "old Elvis." Motorcycle caps and
pork pie hats are OK, but most rock stars of the era were hatless and wore a great deal of grease in their
hair! Best to avoid headbands, bandannas, etc., which are more closely associated with the '60s and '70s.
Grades 1 through 6 have songs to memorize, which can be done mostly in music class. All 6th graders
also have at least one spoken line in the play, and they have each received a script. Memorizing the lines
requires some "homework" -- please ask to see your son's script and check on whether he knows his
line(s) by heart.
Thank you so much for your cooperation. Please email Mr. Hample, or call him at 308-4144, if you have
any questions or comments.
Electronics Policy at Berchmans Lower School Students in the Lower School are not allowed to bring electronic devises to school. Parents are asked to
contact the school if they want their son to bring a cell phone to school. If such is the case, the phones
must be turned off and remain in book bags during the school day and on the bus to and from school. If a
phone call needs to be made to parents, an adult on campus will call on the student’s behalf.
Morning Drop-Off
Please have your son remain in the car until you drive up to the drop-off point, where a teacher will be
waiting to assist him out of the car. A teacher will be on duty to receive students from 7:30 A.M. until
7:53 A.M. After this time, please park outside of the circle in the Visitors Parking area and escort your
son to class. Please do not, under any circumstances, attempt to pass cars while waiting in the
carpool line. We also ask that you drive slowly on the school’s campus. Please support us in
keeping your sons safe!
Late Leavers Late Leavers is held in the Berchmans assembly room on Monday through Friday. The hours are 3:15-
5:15 P.M. After 5:15 P.M. on Monday through Thursday, all students will be waiting in the front of the
main SSH administration building. The late bus runs Monday through Thursday only. On Fridays, all
students will wait to be picked up from the Berchmans assembly room. Please note: All students who
are picked up from Late Leavers must be signed out by parents or by the designated person
responsible for child.
*Ms. Brenda Robert is the staff member who supervises children in the Late Leavers Program at
Berchmans. In the event of an emergency, she may be contacted at 337-322-8226.
Early Dismissal (December 15 – December 19)
On Monday, December 15, Tuesday, December 16, Wednesday, December 17, and
Thursday, December 18 student dismissal will be at 1:30 P.M. On these four days, Late
Leavers will meet, and the Late Bus will run. However, on Friday, December 19, student
dismissal will be at NOON. Late Leavers will not meet and the Late Bus will not run on
12/19. Parents are asked to make arrangements accordingly.
