The Main Event
Please share your photos on the event page and engage with the
moderators as we go along with the program!
GSNETX will post activities, videos and photos on Facebook in the
Camp In, Camp Cookie group throughout the evening. These posts will
remain accessible after the event, so you can visit the group later
on to find them. Videos
are also available on YouTube. There will be several interactive
Facebook posts and videos over the course of the evening, and they
will also remain accessible on the GSNETX Camp In, Camp Cookie
group after the event ends.
Be sure to follow GSNETX on Facebook and join the GSNETX Camp In,
Camp Cookie group so you don’t miss any posts! Remember to like our
page on Facebook to stay up to date with us!
Because this is an online event, make sure all girls have reviewed
the Girl Scout Internet Safety Pledge with their families and each
participant understands and agrees to the rules.
For Troops to Virtually Meet
If you wish wo make this event a virtual troop meeting, we
encourage adults to choose the best platform that works for your
girls and families. Some video meeting platforms include Zoom,
Skype, GoToMeeting, WebEx and Google Meet. Best practices for a
video call include:
• Host a practice call before the event to sort out any tech
issues. • Use the settings to require a meeting password for
access, and share the password only with those you wish to
attend
your virtual troop meeting. • Change screen sharing permission to
“host only.” • Make sure settings disable the “Join Before Host”
option to guarantee a trusted adult is on the call at all times. •
Enable “Co-Host” to grant a co-leader or additional caregivers
moderator permissions. • Disable “File Transfer” to prevent cyber
virus sharing. • Disable “Allow Removed Participants to
Rejoin”
Social Media
We invite and encourage you to share your Camp In Camp Cookie
experiences on your favorite social media platforms. Use the
hashtag #GSCampIn to connect with more GIrl Scouts and inspire
others to build their cookie
skills too.
Be Prepared: Setting Up Your Site
The first thing to do is create your unique campsite for the night.
Are you sleeping in a tent in the yard? A tent indoors? Or maybe
you’ll create a magical blanket fort in your home. You can simply
sleep in your usual spot if you’d like! Think of
ways to make your ‘campsite’ special. Many campers like to bring
twinkle lights, fluffy blankets, photos of loved ones, or great
books. Below, we will show just a couple ways to create an indoor
campsite; however, we encourage you to build your space in whatever
method and style inspires you, so be creative and unconventional as
you wish. Make sure you have easy access to the kitchen for our
activities! Make sure to share your campsites with us on
Facebook!
Simple Design Idea: “The Lean-To”
You can get cozy feeling of a tent with minimal supplies. All you
need for this quick and easy blanket fort is a sheet or blanket and
a few thumb tacks. Pin one edge to the wall at any height that is
comfortable for you. Use pins or heavy objects to hold down the
other end of the sheet, creating a “lean-to” shape above your
sleeping spot. You may decorate the space with pillows, fluffy
blankets, a stuffed animal, glow sticks or twinkle lights.
Complex Design Idea: “The Fortress”
If you want to create a more elaborate blanket fort, here is just
one way to do so. Again, think creatively and build your space
however works best for you!
1. Outline the space. You can use chairs, a sofa and blanket to
create boundaries. 2. Think about structure. What will hold up your
fort? You might use an assortment of rigid objects, like hockey
sticks
and hiking poles to build upon the foundation. 3. Cover the space.
Thin sheets work well to construct a canopy above the sleeping
area. You may also want to use a few
rubber bands and clips to hold the sheets to the rigid structure
where needed. 4. Add your sleeping bag or blankets and pillow. 5.
Make it homey! Consider adding twinkle lights, a plant, pinecones
or glow sticks.
Get comfy and tune into the Facebook Group at 4 pm for the opening
ceremony!

Pathways to sell cookies this year:
With the help of her parent/caregiver, a Girl Scout sets up Digital
Cookie to sell online. Orders open December 11, in-person
deliveries begin in January. No money-handling or guesswork
required.
Based on comfort level, a girl can begin selling in person. Selling
door to door, to family and friends, teammates, and beyond, asking
her network of contacts is a great way to get started! Our Cookie
Mix Calculator will help you know what Cookies to have on hand to
meet the demand.
Have you ever seen a Girl Scout selling cookies at your favorite
neighborhood restau- rant? That’s called a Cookie Booth Sale! Girls
and their families can work with their Troop Cookie Manager to set
up family booth sales as a new way to reach more customers. Girls
should follow all state and local precautions including wearing a
mask and gloves.
Girls can participate in Troop Booth Sales and Council Booth Sales
with local partners like grocery stores and more. Council Booth
Sale locations are secured by Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and
troops can sign up for slots in eBudde, our Cookie Program
software. Proceeds from these booth sales benefit the troop and
helps to fund Girl Scout adventures!

Make, Bake Plan & Promote
This activity will have your creative juices flowing as you make
your own cookie, decorate and design it, name it, and draft a plan
on how you would launch a business promoting your cookie. Take this
knowledge and experience and consider how you might launch your
very own business based on something you’re passionate about. Make
& Bake: Follow the instructions starting on page 12 to make
some delicious cookie dough, roll it out and bake it. Also follow
along on our YouTube playlist.
Plan & Promote: If you were to design your very own cookies,
what would you do? How food looks is often called presentation to
food lovers. When considering how to decorate your cookies to sell
to customers, presentation can be just as important as if the
cookies taste amazing. Start by making a plan for what you will
name your cookie and how you would decorate it. Then factor in how
much it cost to make your cookie, consider how many cookies you
would package together and how much you would sell them to
customers for.
Name your cookie:
Plan how you’ll decorate/design your cookie:
Consider the cost to make your cookie: Cost of ingredients:
$____________ Have an adult help you estimate the cost of the
ingredients that you used. Include as many ingredients as you can -
flour, sugar, butter, etc.
Cost of transportation: $____________ The cost of transportation
often impacts the price of the things we buy. Consider how far an
adult had to drive to and from the store to buy incredients and the
cost of delivering cookies to your customers.
Cost of packaging: $____________ Consider what type of packaging
you might use to put your cookies in to sell to customers. This
might include some type of plastic sealing bag, boxes, ribbon,
etc.
Total cost of your cookies: $____________
How many cookies did you make: #____________ Cost per cookie:
$____________ Total cost divided by # of cookies made.
Now consider how many cookies should be included in each “package”
you will sell to customers and how much each “package” will
cost.
_______________ $____________ # of cookies in Price of each each
package package
Design an ad to market your cookie to customers:

Cookie Activity

and YouTube.
Safety: Hair Up, sleeves up, jewelry off, Hands Washed, Apron
Up
Before Baking: Read through the recipe and check that you have all
ingredients. Pull all ingredients out and place on countertop. Take
1 cup of butter out and leave to soften on the countertop.
Equipment prep: take out all of the bakeware you need to complete
this recipe. Place on the countertop and have it ready to go!
Bakeware Includes:
Cookie sheets
Rolling Pin
Cookie Cutter
Rubber Spatula
Oven mitts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3 cups all purpose flower
nonstick spary or butter wrappers
If you have all the ingredients, great! You’re ready to continue
with the recipe.
Step 1: Prep Ingredients.
1. Take out 1 cup of butter; it is usually 2 sticks of butter but
may be different depending on the type of butter adults in your
home purchase.
2. If you didn’t read through the steps of the recipe and your
butter is still cold, you will need to soften it, but not melt it
completely. Save the wrappers!
3. Remove the wrappers and place your butter in a large*
microwavable safe dish. In increments of 10 – 15 seconds, soften
your butter. DO NOT melt butter completely. You will have runny
cookies! It should take 3 or 4 rounds in the microwave. If you do
not have a large bowl, a small one is fine.
4. This is a good place to pause the video and soften the butter if
needed. I’ll see you back here once the butter is softened.
Remember, don’t melt it completely!
5. Place your softened butter in a large bowl. Measure out 1 cup of
granulated white sugar. Add the sugar to the large bowl with the
softened butter. Pause the video and complete this step in the
recipe.
6. Take out your electric mixer and attach the whisks. Plug in and
place whisks in bowl. Holding the mixer in one hand, and the
steadying the bowl in the other, turn your mixer on and turn up to
low/medium speed. Pause the video and cream together your butter
and sugar for your own recipe. I’ll see you in a few minutes!
STEM PLUG: Creaming is an important process of mixing together your
sugar and your fat (butter) which created air needed for leavening
allowing for the cookies to be light and fluffy. While mixing, the
jagged edges of the sugar crystals drags in air. While the cookies
are baking, the leavening (baking powder) releases Carbon Dioxide
which gravitates to the air spaces created by the creaming. This
allows the cookies to rise and have the texture be light and
tender.
14
Step 2: Let’s get baking!
1. Now we need to crack our egg. My suggestion is to crack it into
a separate bowl just in case the shell breaks and ends up in the
bowl. Break your egg on a flat surface, it will crack easier and
minimize the chance of accidentally smashing the egg. Add your egg
to the butter and sugar mixture and mix until well incorporated
with your electric mixer or by hand! See you soon!
2. Your wet ingredients should be well incorporated. You shouldn’t
be able to see chunks of butter or sugar or egg. Take a look at
your mixture. If you can see specific ingredients, you need to
continue to mix them. Pause the video and asses your wet
ingredients.
3. If you’re mixture looks well mixed, it’s time to measure the
extracts and add them to your batter. Once added, mix well. Pause
the video and complete this step.
4. Preheat your oven to 350°F 5. Measure your dry ingredients: 3
cups flour, baking
powder, and salt. Pause the video, check your recipe, and measure
out your dry ingredients. Don’t add them yet!
6. Alright, it’s time to add in the flour. You can add the flour in
by hand, stand mixer, or electric mixer. Measure out 3 cups of
flour. Add each cup slowly. If your mixer starts to struggle, tip
out your batter onto a clean table surface and finish incorporating
the flour by hand.
STEM PLUG: Baking Powder contains baking soda mixed with powered
acid making it a ready-made leavening agent. When it is combined
with water, bubbling starts and continues in the oven. Some powders
mix two acids: one reacts quickly, and one provides gas later,
giving a “double lift” (or higher rise) to your cake or
cookies.
7. Once your dough is well incorporated, it is time to prep your
cookie sheets. Either spray them with non- stick spray or use your
butter wrappers! Pause the video and prep your cookie sheets!
8. In chunks, roll out dough. Dough should be thick- 1/4
inch.*
9. Dip your cookie cutter into flour so the dough doesn’t stick to
it. Cut the cookies!
10. Using careful hands and spatulas, move cut cookies to prepared
cookie sheets. It helps to dip your spatula into flour.
11. Combine scraps and roll out again! Repeat until all dough has
been used.**
STEM PLUG: The texture of a cookie is affected by the
thickness. When the cookie dough is thinner, it will bake faster
causing it to be crunchier. If the cookie dough is thicker, the
baking will take a little longer, leaving time for you to cool it
and have it be softer.
When slicing cough dough, firmly press straight down and lift
straight back up. When lifting the cutter, use your finger or a
chopstick to gently press on smaller or more detailed areas to help
release the dough. If the cutter is sticking, dip the edges in
confectioner’s sugar or flour before cutting. When cutting shapes,
cut them close together to minimize dough scraps. Dough can only be
re-rolled so many times before it is too tough and no longer good
to use.
**You may need to re-flour surface or dough each time you roll
out.
*** You will need to organize cookies on sheet to maximize space.
Limited oven space and limited time.
12. Bake at 350°F for 6-8 minutes. 13. Let cool on cookie sheet
until firm; transfer to cooling
rack.
STEM PLUG: When we take the cookies out of the oven, the cookie
will continue to cook and water will still be evaporating. At the
same time, the cookie will start to cool down. The thinner the
cookie, the faster the cooling. Evaporation of the cookie creates
certain moisture to the cookie. This Moisture effects what type of
cookie we get (crunchy cookies require moisture to escape, chewy
cookies can have some moisture.) The cooling down process is
affected by where the cookie is placed.
Rack – If the cookie is placed on a rack, air can travel around the
cookie, taking away the hear. This makes the cooking process
faster. The air also takes away moisture that still may be
evaporating from the cookie.
Tray – A metal tray will lose the heat from cooking pretty quickly.
The cookie will not have full circulation around the cookie so the
bottom will not be able to make the moisture evaporate. This may
burn the bottom of your cookie.
Wood – Placing the cookies on a wooden tray doesn’t speed the
cooling process. Sometimes the wood may absorb (take in) the
moisture of the cookie which would make the bottom of the cookie
soggy.
Glass – Glass doesn’t transfer hear so it tends to slow down the
cooling process.

Goal Setting
Hi Girl Scout! Are you ready to dive into the 2021 Cookie Program?
Let’s start by setting a SMART goal. What is a SMART goal you ask?
Let’s take a closer look.
S M A R T
smart | What exactly do you want to accomplish? This could be a
specific number of packages that you want to sell, a skill that you
want to learn or a reward that you want to earn.
measurable | How will you know when you have met your goal? How can
you track your progress? This could be a chart to show how many
packages you have sold and how many you have to go.
attainable | Is it possible to meet this goal in the time you have
to complete it? Consider what it will take to meet your goal. This
could be a list of people to ask to purchase cookies, the number of
booth sales you would participate in, etc.
relevant | Is this goal something that is important to you and that
you are excited about? Think about why you are setting this goal
and how it motivates you to be successful.
time-bound | What is the deadline you set to meet your goal? Make
sure you create a plan to achieve your goal by the date you
set.
Goal:
Ready to set your first goal? A great place to get started is to
check out the rewards on the previous page.
DIGITAL COOKIE Digital Cookie is a great way to reach customers
without leaving home and earn exclusive rewards. Did you know the
average customer who purchases online through Digital Cookie buys
4-5 packages? The first level Digital Cookie reward is a “Cookie
Techie Patch,” which she can earn by setting up her site and
sending 15 emails. Brainstorm a list of 15 potential Digital Cookie
customers that you can send emails to.
Once you’ve set your goal, make sure you set yourself up for
success by creating an action plan! 2 Creating and practicing a
strong pitch is a great way to develop your confidence in speaking
to customers. Use this pitch template to make sure you include all
the essential elements in your pitch. Introduce yourself: Hi! My
name is _________________and I'm a Girl Scout ____________ (Program
Level) Make the ask: Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?
Explain why you’re selling: My goal is

SWAPS are Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.
These are small tokens of friendship to exchange with other Girl
Scouts at camp or other events. Girls will often wear her SWAPS on
a hat or display them in
some special way as a visual reminder that she is connected to a
larger sisterhood. Try making one of these SWAPS ideas or come up
with your own design!
