Installation and User Manual - DCPC Overview of tools:
VirtualDub: used to convert the source material into single frames and audio
Super: conversion from windows media video to avi container
easyDCP Player: used for testing the output DCP and checking for proper frame rate
Goldwave: audio editor, used for conversion of audio files
ImageMagick
Installation of DCPC and ImageMagick
Extract and install the package „ImageMagick-6.5.9-0-Q16-windows-static.exe“, using the
options as pictured below:
Note: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
must be installed.
Use the custom search option of
windows update to find the
installation files for .NET.
Extract the file “dcpc.rar” to any location on your hard drive, making sure the path to this location
does not use any empty spaces in it’s name.
During the first startup of the software, the program will ask for the location of the folder
“cinematools”, which needs to be specified within the location chosen above.
There are more options available in this dialogue:
MXF Modus: will determine the file format of the output file
Colormode: if active, material will be converted from sRGB color mode to XYZ
Video/Audio Frame Alignment: if active, the length of the video will automatically be adjusted to
match the length of audio
Number of Threads: selects the number of processes used by the program while rendering the
output file. (this number should match the number of cores your CPU has)

Creating a 2D film from avi source
If not already given, the resolution of files needs to be converted to 1920x1080 or 2048x1080,
respectively. Set the framerate to 24fps for 2D and 2x24fps (48fps) for 3D files.
Audio needs to be converted to PCM, 24bit 48khz and is acceptable as mono, stereo, or multichannel
wav files. Three stereo waves create 5.1. channels.
Step 1: Creating single frames from source material
1.1. Converting wmv to avi (skip this section for other file formats)
If your source material is in .wmv format, it needs to be converted into an .avi container. For best
quality, use uncompressed avi or a high bit rate. In the same step, one can already set the framerate
of 24fps.
The resulting avi file can be used for further processing.
1.2. Creating single frames from source file
Use the program VirtualDub to extract single frames from the source file. Select your source material
(the one just created in SUPER)
in <File> -<Open video file>:
[Video -> Frame Rate...]
Here you can change
the frame rate if it is not
already at 24fps.
[Video -> Filters]
[Add..--> resize]
Here you can change the
resolution of the file.
Make sure to select “Full processing mode”.
[Video -> Compression]
Select “Uncompressed RGB”.
[File - > Save image sequence]
Select a name and path for your
output files, setting the format to
“BMP”.
Based on the length of your movie, it
is necessary to adjust the number of
digits in the file name to a figure high
enough to cover all frames. All places
filled with a “0” will need to be used.
If your movie will consist of 2,500
frames, you need 4 digits. If you have
15,000 frames, you will need 5 digits.
Upon clicking “OK” all frames will be rendered and saved. Make sure to have enough disk space
available, as each frame will use approximately 6MB!

1.3 Extracting Audio information
[Audio Full pricessing mode]
[File -> Save wav file]
Save the audio to a location of
your choice.
1.4 Audio conversion
Your audio files need to be
converted into a compatible
format (48khz or 96kht / 24bit)
Open the audio file(s) in
GoldWave and use the [Effect-
>Resample] option to convert it
to 48khz.
Finally, save your audio file [File -> Save sound
as], using the format “(obsolete) PCM signed 24
bit”.
If your audio does not precisely match the
frame length of your video, this is the point
where you can trim or extend the number of
frames of your audio.
Step 2: Enter all content into DCPC
First, open the the
DCPC tool and select
the options
(“Einstellungen”, will
display automatically
upon first startup).
Select the folder
“cinematools” from the
rar archive.
Now the program is asking you what
kind of output you would like to
create. Select “2D” Film.

Hit the “Start” button and wait for the DCP to be created. Depending on the length of the project and
the capability of your machine, this may take several hours.
For testing of the DCP you may use easyDCPplayer.

Select the folder in which you placed the individual
frames as bmp pictures.
Select the audio file(s) as needed.
If you are using a multichannel PCM
wave, put it into the first field (R/L) and
it will contain all 5.1 channels.
If you are using stereo PCM wave, three
files are needed.
In mono format, six files are necessary.
Insert the name of your film and any comments (Bemerkungen)
in these fields.
Specify the name of the creator here.
Select the output folder.
