Paradigm Shift of Technology
Stage IThe organization is small. The no. of employees and the customers
are less.Personal data of employees can be easily
managed in registers.Functions of MS Office are sufficient to
handle the electronic data. The need for an exclusive DBMS is not
there.
Stage II The organization starts to grow. The no. of employees and the clients starts
increasing. It starts becoming difficult to manage the
personal data of the employees in register form.
The order books of the customers also starts becoming difficult to handle in register form.
The MS Office functions are no more sufficient for managing the electronic data.
Need for a professional DBM System arises.
Stage IIShifts towards technology
1. Digitization: technological advancement.
2. Knowledge-intensity: information, knowledge and
learning.
3. Networking: connectivity.
4. Globalization: pulsating economical systems.
5. Dematerialization: shift in value-creating models.
6. Risk, speed and innovation: idea-driven growth.
Stage III
The organization feels the need for the DBMS
systems.
It starts finding ways in which it can implement the
Information System and how can it gain benefits
from it.
Before implementing any Information System the
management must have a look on some of the most
important issues.

Planning
Review the data management system currently
active in the company.
Find out areas in which change is required.
Appoint consultants who are highly specialized
in the DBMS e.g. Oracle
They will have a look at the whole
organizational structure.
Then they will proceed to the designing phase
Designing Based on the size of the organization and on the amount
of data that is being stored.
The consultants along with the management will set up
the security limits of the system.
Some data can be accessed by any body in the
organization, but certain data that is of strategic
importance can only be reached by the top management.
Team work coordination & project management are
important administrative task in this stage.
Implementation
Development of application & user interface
are the major steps.
Communicate with all employees so that
they are aware of the changes going on.
