On Arrival at School

1. Check in at the office.2. Introduce yourself and locate the classroom.3. Find the day book and prepare for the day.4. Perform tasks to execute the lesson (e.g.

photocopying, reading the information in a textbook).

5. Find the seating plan. If none, be prepared to make one.

6. Familiarize yourself with school safety routines, school time table, yard duty supervision, and school discipline policy.

7. Identify the names of students with high needs, allergies & those requiring medications.

8. Review the in-school support program timetable.

At the End of the Day• Ask students to assist with the tidying of the room.• Distribute newsletters or notes that need to go home.• Write a note to the classroom teacher & thank staff who assisted you during the

day.• Check in at the office.• Maintain confidentiality about the students.

• Curriculum documents define what children are taught in Ontario public schools.

• The Ministry of Education sets standards for the entire province by developing and publishing curriculum documents for use by all Ontario teachers.

Code of Conduct

The Ontario Code of Conduct sets clear provincial standards of behaviour. It specifies the consequences for student actions that do not comply with these standards.

Code of Conduct: Students

Students are to be treated with respect and dignity. In return, they must demonstrate respect for themselves, for others and for the responsibilities of citizenship through acceptable behaviour.

As role models, teachers uphold these high standards when they:

• help students work to their full potential and develop their self-worth;

• communicate regularly and meaningfully with parents;

• maintain consistent standards of behaviour for all students;

Education & Safe School Act

Bill 212

An Act to amend the Education Act with respect to behaviour, discipline and safety The government is providing schools with the tools, policies, and funding needed to make them safer and better places to learn.

Bill 52: Under the new amendment to this Bill

Students must stay enrolled in school until the age of 18.

Education Quality & Accountability (EQAO)

• EQAO assesses all students in Grade 3 and Grade 6 in reading, writing and mathematics.

• The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test is administered in October each year.

• The Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics is administered in January to students enrolled in first-semester mathematics courses and in May/June to students enrolled in second semester.
