Placement

• Danube, springing from Germany, gathering tributaries from 10 countries and crossing 4 capitals (Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Belgrad), after a route of 2860 Km, formed at the mouth in Black Sea a delta.

• Raporting to Romania, Danube Delta is situated in SE of the country, having the form of the greek letter "A" (delta).

Population

• The population of Delta is grouped in 15 rural localities and 2 cities: Tulcea and Sulina.

Vegetation

70% of Danube Delta is dominated by reed and cattail.

Floating plants and leaves: white water lily, yellow water lily, frogbit, water thistles.

Riparian plants: reed and cattail, water fern, sorrel, frog mint, water hemlock.

Land plants: white willow, poplar, alder, ash.

Fauna

• Danube Delta is a real paradise for fauna. Here lives 98% of aquatic european fauna.

• Birds are the those who created Danube Delta fame, known, since the beginning of the century as an avian paradise. This reputation is due to the 327 species of delta that represents 81% of Romania avifauna. From these, 218 species remain there and the rest of 109 species just staying diferent periods of time.
