Situation

• Focus of operations remains on clean-up & recovery

• FEMA Modeling Task Force’s preliminary damage assessments unchanged:

o Destroyed: 1,248; Major damage: 452; Minor damage: 640; Impacted: 1,597

o Assessments based on aerial data; several more days until ground assessments

Severe Weather – Central U.S.

Summary for May 30-31, 2013

• Severe storms continued to moved across the Plains & Great Lakes,

• 286 storm reports, including16 possible tornado sightings

• Tornado touched down in Broken Arrow, AR; some homes & businesses

damaged

• Minor property damage - widespread downed trees and power lines

• Media reports 8 injuries in southwest AR

• Sporadic power outages, most notably in AR

• River levels rising, flash flooding occurring across Plains & river basins

• Sand bagging, swift water rescues & voluntary evacuations in AR & IA

• Meskwaki Tribe, IA (pop 1,300) 17 of 18 tribal homes flooded

State/Local Response

• IA, OK, and ND EOCs partially activated for flood response

• All remaining affected State EOCs at normal operations

• No unmet needs

FEMA / Federal Response

• Region VII RRCC at Level III in support of flooding response in IA & KS

• IMAT-2 & DCO preparing to deploy to IA

• 1 Liaison Team deployed to IA EOC

• 2 Tribal Liaisons deployed to KS & IA

• Region VIII RRCC activated to Level III in support of storm/flooding response

Ice Jam Flooding – Alaska (FINAL)

Current Situation

▲ Ice jam weakened and broke as of 11:00 pm EDT Wednesday, May 29

• Water from inundated areas below Galena slowly moving downstream

▲ Water subsiding in Galena, but minor flooding will continue for several days

▲ At Koyukuk, a village downriver from Galena, water rose 15 inches with only

minor flooding – high water has passed downstream & ice is starting to move

south

Impacts

▲ Almost every building in Galena suffered damage; airport runway is only area not

inundated

• 288 people were evacuated to other communities

• Power & water systems remain out

▲ Falling water levels left a large amount of stranded ice, making access difficult

Response

• AK EOC remains partially activated; no unmet needs

▲ 3 shelters open with 27 (-10) occupants (NSS; as of 6:00 am EDT, May 31)

• FEMA Region X remains at Watch/Steady State

• No requests for FEMA assistance
