Keeping children safe

online

Everybody plays a part!

1. Be a good sharent• SAFETY: Don’t post personal information (e.g.

birth certificates, passports) or geo-taggedphotos that can reveal their locations (e.g.school, home).

• PRIVACY: Adjust privacy settings on socialmedia and allow only trusted audiences to viewposts.

• APPROPRIATENESS: Before posting, askyourself if your kids will feel embarrassed orupset when they see your posts, now and in thefuture.

2. Set up parental controls

Use tools such as safe settings,

Internet filters, and web restrictions

programmes to monitor and restrict

your child’s Internet access.

3. Monitor Use of

Mobile Phones• Establish ground rules on the use of mobile phones

Seek permission before using mobile phones

Have a time limit for the use of mobile phones

• Conduct periodic checks on mobiles phones

E.g. Social Media Platforms (e.g. WhatsApp/Apps)

• Have conversations with your child on the use of

mobile phones

Talk to him/her about his/her online experiences and

habits

Let your child know that it is alright to talk to you if
