Consultant Profile
Mikael Josephson
Year of birth: 1963
M.Sc. Mechanical Design Engineer
Description
Innovative and accurate product developer who enjoys working in cooperation with different competencies and disciplines. After 20 years in the profession with projectoriented work, Mikael has a focus on the target and sees the realization of customer needs translated into solutions and documentation as his challenge.
In addition to for example 6 years of experience at Tetra Pak with machine design, 1,5 years at Gambro with complaint handling and root cause analysis and and 5 years at Anoto with mechatronics Mikael has continuously been working with simulation and education using the PTC tool suite (Pro/Engineer Mechanica and Mechanism Dynamics)
Fields of experience: Machine design, Mechatronics design and Plastics design for mass production with advanced surfacing, Structure and Rigid body simulation
Mikael is an advanced user of PTC's suite of Pro / Engineer, Pro / Mechanica, Pro / Mechanism Dynamics and BMX (Behavioral Modeling Extension) and has good experience with Intralink and Windchill / PDMLink.

Assignments
Sidel S.p.a 2014
Concept development of production machine for labeling according Avalon Innovation Model AIM. As an example of tasks Mikael took part in conveying and determining the technical challenge at hand in meetings with the customer and possible future suppliers in Cambridge. Mikael designed several suggested conceptual machinery solutions for the configuration of inkjet printing systems.
Tetra Pak 2014
A functional rig for the testing of fillsystems was designed and ordered. The rig of size 4m X 6m X 4m was developped in cooperation and communication with for example testdesigners, automation and machine operators. The challenge was to integrate the fillingsystems of both the Tetra Top and the Tetra Rex machine systems. Mikael held the roll as technical coordinator and mechanics designer and communicated design decisions to other mechanics designers. Also some key components where designed and documented by Mikael.
Tetra Pak 2014
Equipment for accelerated wear testing of a certain type of machine component was developped. A cam and spring combination was designed and dimensioned using Mechanica (PTC) for structure analysis and Mechaninsm Dynamics for rig body analysis. The challenge was to produce a 2 ton force 3 times per second with a well defined profile with for example a 40 ms upflanc and a 20 ms downflanc.
Axis Communications 2013
The project included the procurement of simulation services for impact analyzes for Axis from Altair. It was important to judge the risks in order to pass UL certification. The idea was both to examine the "feasibility" (if the concept proposal was reasonable) and partly whatif scenarios (sensibility, comparative studies, what decreases / increases risk)
Anoto, 20072013
Product development in plastics and ECAD.
In collaboration with physicists and opticians plastic parts were designed with regard to optical and other requirements along with design of PCB outlines and component placement on PCBA's
Among the tasks was to orient an optical path from outside the product through a lens

into the product and via a mirror down and onto a chiponboard CMOS sensor.
The work involved all from proof of concept, prototyping to design for tooling and ready made product out of the production site. In addition test equipment was developed for tests using an ABB robot, and testing and verification in climatechambers was performed.
Role: Mechanical design engineer
Gambro, 20062007
Assignment: To manage the technical investigation of complaints from end users (1.5 years at the client).
A typical problem is the damage that occurs in autoclaving the plastic pieces that are critical for the function at the end use. The challenge is to find and understand the "root cause" which then becomes the basis for the measures that are typically made with the producer. Input data is collected partly from the field, eg interview with nurses who work with patients and partly with technical inspection of the outcome and direct from the manufacturer (in this case in South Korea) and also subcontractors to the producer.
Role: Project management and technical investigation.
Tetra Top, 20052006
Assignment: To take part in the design of an inline module for cap application in a Tetra Top Machine (1.5 years at the client).
This assignment had a clear machine design focus. A Tetra Top machine was divided in the middle and a cap application module was designed and fitted between the halves. Moving parts involving servos and pneumatics were designed. The project involved both design and documentation from scratch and hands on testing in the workshop. It was a nice experience to see the results on display in the Dusseldorf Packaging Technology Fair.
Role: Mechanics Designer.
Naval Electronics, 2005
Assignment: Design / Development of moving satellite dish for marine use.
The challenge was to develop an enlarged version of an antenna which was already in the market . The antenna dish needs to oscillate in sort of a small circular motion that is realized with three actuators ( brushless DC motors ) to average the direction to the satellite signal to in turn provide position control of the satellite dish . This movement is simulated in Pro / Mechanism . A prototype was developed . Transmissions , bearings , hangers with specified degrees of freedom and Shoulders ( 3 pieces ) are combined with respect to the mounting on the boat in harsh environments. As an example of the design challenges one can mention a solution with a sliding tray which allows rotation for nearly two laps of the vertical axis between its stop positions . This rotation is done by

rotating the cabling that must not be torn even if the movement can be rapid when the boat rolls. The design is balanced to take advantage of inertia for facilitating position control.
Role: Project responsible and mechanical designer.
Tetra Recart
During a period of 3,5 years Mikael was part of project Tetra Recart at Tetra Pak. The assignment was for machine design involving for example moving parts and cam controls, in different parts of the machine. Starting with solution and design from scratch and taking it to realisation in live machines.
