WELCOME TO TURKEY
CUSTOM AND FESTIVALS
We have got a few festivals in Turkey. Some are national, some are religious.
Let’s see them:
- the first one is on the 23rd of April.
April 23rd is the National Sovereignty and Children’s day.It is a present for all the children in the world from
our great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.It is a National Holiday in Turkey. On April 23rd,Turkish
childrendecorate their classrooms and schools with flags and
balloons. There are Turkish flags in the streets,too..
Turkish children are always happy on that day.Because children
from different countries come to Turkey for this day. They have
performances at the sports halls, stadiums or open-air theatres .
ALL THE CHILDREN ARE FRIENDS.
They can’t speak the some language, but
they can speak the language of friendship
Commemoration of Atatürk ,Youth and Sports Day is on the 19th of May.
VICTORY DAY IS ON THE 30TH OF AUGUST

• THERE ARE CEREMONIES AND PERFORMANCES ON THESE DAYS IN EVERY YEAR.
We have 2 religious festivals.Ramadan Feast and Sacrifice Feast.
Ramadan is a month during which the Muslims fast .( Fast means we don’t eat anything between the sunrise and sunset..)
We try to control our willpower and give up our bad
habits during this month. At the end of Ramadan we reward ourselves with Ramadan festival .We
sometimes call it ‘Sweet Festival ‘.

festival ,The Muslims sacrifice sheep, cow etc. to help poor people..People who can afford this, sacrifice and give out the meat to poor
people. This festival developes cooperation , humanity among people. There are no families
who have financial problems in these festivals. The rich help the poor ..Everybody
especially the children are very happy in these festivals.
• In religious feasts ,all the family members come together at the grandparents’house on the first day .Young people kiss their grandparents’ hands and they get pocket money.
