CUSTOMER DEPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE – NOKIA CABLE TAB

March 27, 2017

• 2014 – Rallying Cry to deliver Gigabit services and protect our backyard

• 10/2014 – Turned up first “G1GABLAST” service. With plan to build in greenfield forward and limited brownfield for strategic/competitive.

• 2015 – Biggest Challenges were in Operationalizing, Stabilizing, Standardizing and (Cabinet temp / cooling, Monitoring, Tshooting). Converged Edge for business services

• 2016 – Optimizing OLT deployment – Year of the R-OLT; 30k PON residential customers; 200k HHP FTTH

• 2017 – IPDR for LTOP; Outdoor ONT; “PON ready” fiber deep strategy with R-PHY N+0.

• 2018-19 – Drop the RFoG. IP Video; VoPON; 10G PON transition. We will likely move to 10G EPON.

• PON technology (2.5; 10). What provisioning methodologies would these lead to. Could DOCSIS back end be leveraged?

• Provisioning Methodology • Sigma Middleware, Push vs. Pull flow through.

• DPoX, Netconf Yang

• Serving overlay or Gfield alone? • RFOG

• Lower tier speeds over PON / Include Product parity with DOCSIS based services (i.e. bitcounting/CALEA).

• L3/L2 OLT

• Ringed Access for Cabinet OLT? Aggregation?

• OLT deployment model ; STC Facilities based, Cabinet Based; Strand Based or R-OLT

• Split Ratios

• Indoor/Outdoor ONT?

• Integrated Gateway vs. Stand Alone ONT

• How would we serve Business? MetroE, Backhaul, etc.

DESIGN CRITERIA TO PON-DER

OPERATIONAL LESSONS LEARNED

• Division of Labor… and RACIs are kind of a big deal. And FTTH challenges many existing models.

• Installation time 2-3 hrs per drop;

• Don’t get stuck on speed tests with customer.

• Mechanical engineering is critical component for reliability and success. Air flow matters, Cox and Nokia learned a lot. Dynamic temp range

Q & A FOR COX TEAM

COX CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION (FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY)

Key Take Aways:- R-Olt is the way to go and Critically important for Ftth in Cable Access- Converged Svc over PON will make FTTH a difficult business decision vs. DOCSIS - If your building fiber in greenfield… then that is the network you really want.

- so, let’s figure out how to do it well.- Division of Labor is critical in FTTH
