FOCUS – DAY ONE

To understand the measurement process and the need for having standard units by measuring length with non-standard units and eventually with standard units to the nearest inch.

FOCUS – DAY TWO

Measuring length to the nearest ½ and ¼ of an inch.

FOCUS – DAY THREE

To be able to choose the appropriate unit of measure for different objects.

To be able to estimate and measure in inches, feet, yards, and miles.

FOCUS – DAY FOURTo be able to choose the appropriate unit and tool to measure or estimate in cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.

To identify objects which hold about a cup, pint, quart, or gallon.

FOCUS – DAY FIVE

To be able to choose the appropriate unit and tool to measure or estimate in ounces, pounds, and tons.

To identify objects which weigh about an ounce, pound, or ton.

INCH (IN)- Smallest customary unit of length. Used in the USA!

FOOT (FT)A customary unit of measurement. 1 foot equals 12 inches.

YARD (YD)A customary unit of measurement. 1 yard equals 36 inches or 3

feet.

MILE (MI)The largest customary unit of measurement. 1 mile equals

5,280 feet.

CAPACITYThe volume of a container measured in liquid units

CUP (C) A customary unit of capacity.

PINT (PT)A customary unit of capacity. 2 cups equals 1 pint.

QUART (QT)A customary unit of capacity. 1 quart equals 2 pints, SO 1

quart equals 4 cups.

GALLON (GAL.)A customary unit of capacity. 1 Gallon equals 4 Quarts.

WEIGHTA measure of how light or heavy something is.

OUNCE (OZ)The smallest customary unit of weight.

POUND (LB.)A customary unit of weight. 1 pound equals 16 ounces.

TON (T)The largest customary unit of weight.
