Demo 1: AlwaysOn Availability GroupIntroduction
This Demo provides guidance on how to use build-in template to create SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Group in Azure portal.
Objectives
After completing this Demo, you will be able to:
Create AlwaysOn Availability Group using Azure portal
Scenario
The Demo is to use Azure portal to create AlwaysOn Availability Group in Azure resource group.

Exercise 1: Create AlwaysOn Availability GroupObjectives
In this exercise, we will create SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Group using template.

1. Login to Azure portal
2. Click on " " to start creating a new resource, type in "AlwaysOn" and press "Enter". Select "SQL Server AlwaysOn Cluster"Note: The other option "SQL Server 2014 AlwaysOn" is for classic model, which is beyond the scope of this demo.
3. This template includes 2 DCs and 2 SQL Server instances with one file share witness for the cluster. Click on "Create" button to continue:

4. In "Basics" section, fill in following parameters:o Administrator user nameo Passwordo Subscriptiono Resource Groupo Location
Click on "OK" button to continue once finish:

5. Under "Domain and network setting", fill in following parameters:o Domain nameo Virtual Network nameo Domain Controller subnet nameo SQL Server subnet name
Click on "OK" button when ready

6. Under "Availability group settings", fill in following parameters:o Availability group nameo Availability group listener nameo Availability group listener port

7. Under "VM size,storage settings", filling in following parameters:o SQL Server virtual machine sizeo Domain controller virtual machine sizeo File Share Witness virtual machine sizeo SQL Storage accounto DC storage Accounto SQL Server data disk in TBo Storage optimization
Click on "OK" button when ready.
Note: Storage optimization has 3 options: General workload, transactional processing, Data warehousing.

8. Under "SQL Server settings", enter following parameters:o SQL Server Name Prefixo SQL Server version
SQL Server 2012 SQL Server 2014
o SQL Server service account username & Passwordo SQL Auto Patching maintenance schedule and starting hour
Click on "OK" button when finish:

9. Under "Summary" section, review the parameters. Notice that there is a "Download template" button on the top which allows users to download the JSON template for this configuration. Click on "OK" button when ready.

10. Click "OK" button in "Buy" section to start creating AlwaysOn Availability Group:
11. Wait until AlwaysOn Availability Group is created, this process might take more than one hour to one and half hours007A. When Availability Group is created, you would see the resource group like this:
