Community Managed Walk - Expense Calulation Sheet

Use this document as you begin to work on your initial assesment of a Community Managed Walk within your chapter. This sheet is to help you breakdown all potential costs and factor in additional expenses that you may not think of when planning for a Community Managed Walk. The following tool will walk you through the following:- Event specific expenses- Staff expenses associated with CMW- Other expenses related to CMW

It will also assist you in providing a worksheet for keeping track of the expenses throughout the project.

Introduction

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research programs. Since 1989, we've mobilized millions of Americans in rallying against Alzheimer’s disease the nation's sixth-leading cause of death. Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a movement to reclaim the future for millions.

Because you are exploring opportunities on having a Community Managed Walk to End Alzheimer’s (CMW), we want to introduce you to the concept and help you develop the event so it will reach its potential in dollars raised as well as raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.

Volunteers should be the community leaders of all Walk to End Alzheimer’s events. However, if there is no staff manager for a particular location, or staff support is needed to be adjusted to focus on events with maximum return, a Community Managed Walk presents a great opportunity. It can highlight our mission in communities where we may not have a presence while promoting our cause through the empowerment of volunteers.

Ideally, in a Community Managed Walk, there should be a committee with no fewer than five members lead by an event chair. In addition, Walk should enlist community support drawing on participation from a cross-section of organizations and businesses.

In this document you will find information and tools that will help you and your volunteers plan and execute a successful event.

This guide will lead you through a step-by-step process of:

Understanding the difference between a Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a Community Managed Walk to End Alzheimer’s or what is a 3rd Party Event.

Evaluating volunteer interest and community engagement and activation opportunities.

Completing a chapter staff assessment to determine the feasibility and return on investment when making the decision.

The steps to take to help ensure a successful Community Managed Walk once the decision has finally been made to support a Community Managed Walk in your chapter.

Provide tools and resources not only for your Chapter but a complete kit for you to activate the program within your communities.
