COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE:

Dell Hymes proposed the concept of communicative

competence. (June 7, 1927,Portland, Oregon–

November 13, 2009, Charlottesville, Virginia)

The basic idea of communicative competenceremains the ability to use language appropiately, both receptively and productively, in realsituations.

Communicative tests are intended to be ameasure of how the test takers are able to uselanguage in real life situation.

Examples of communicative language tests:

Students in a class may listen to alecture, but they later need to useinformation from the lecture in a paper.

In taking part in a group discussion, they need to useboth listening and speaking skill and later have acomprehension assessment evaluation.

Even reading a book for pleasure may befollowed by recommending it to a friend and telling the friend why you liked it.
