COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY
July 22, 2018 9th Sunday after Pentecost
ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME
Morning Reflection “A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited
in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as some-thing separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free our-selves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all
living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ― Albert Einstein
Prelude - Hymn Sing We will sing the first and last verse of the chosen hymn. Welcome and Announcements
We welcome you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Please sign the guest book in the narthex so we can send you a welcome packet or fill out a yellow welcome card located in the pews. The card can be placed in the offering place.

Call to Worship Leader: Neighbors and newcomers, families and strangers, People: we gather in this place built by God’s steadfast love. Leader: Strugglers and stragglers, pilgrims almost at the end of the journey, People: each of us is seeks to follow Jesus, the compassionate One. Leader: Builders of bridges in fractured communities, those who stand on either side of walls of fear, People: the Spirit of faithfulness calls us to live as one people – God’s people! Leader: With prayer and praise, in Scripture and in song, together, let us worship the Living God!
*Hymn - “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine” GTG #839 tune - Assurance Prayer of Confession (unison) Steadfast God, we confess that we are so busy putting up walls between ourselves and others, we cannot see the home you are building for all of us. We spend so much time noting the differences between us and others, while you are embracing everyone as your child. We run to welcome those who look, talk, and act like us, and you throw open your doors to the stranger, the alien, in our midst.
Forgive us, Faithful Heart. By your grace, help us to see the household you are building for all people: there are no plastic protectors on the furniture; there are no rooms that are off-limits; and even the smallest child is welcome to sit at the big peoples' Table and be fed by your grace. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our peace, our hope, our Lord, our Savior.
Time for silent confession and reflection.
*Words of Assurance Leader: Do you remember? At one time, you were without Christ; you were the stranger, the outsider, and the alien. But now, in Christ, you have been brought home, living in God's household of hope and peace. People: God's covenant with us is everlasting; God's steadfast love is forever; God's forgiveness makes us new and whole. Thanks be to God. Amen. *Congregational Response - “Lead Me, Guide Me” GTG #740 I am weak and I need your strength and power to help me over my weakest hour. Help me through the darkness your face to see. Lead me, O Lord, lead me. Refrain Lead me, guide me, along the way, for if you lead me, I cannot stray. Lord, let me walk each day with thee. Lead me, O Lord, lead me. *Sharing of the Peace Leader: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.
