Mary’s concert traces her origins from a small village in Kerry to finding a home in New York City. Drawing upon the richness of the American Songbook, we hear echoes of Ireland filtered through an American sensibility. But mostly, it is the story of a journey requiring untried courage, reflections on love and children, an affirmation of Life both specific and universal.

Galway based Decadent Theatre are back with one of the most anticipated productions of 2014. ‘Defender of the Faith’ is the debut play of Stuart Carolan, the author and creator of RTE’S infamous, LOVE/HATE.
Defender of the Faith is a brilliant thriller set on a farm in Armagh 1986. The play tells the story of a family, entrenched in paramilitarism and under the constant watch of British forces. When a visitor arrives with the job of rooting out a police informer, paranoia grips the farm. Joe, his son Thomas, and a long-serving farm hand, Barney, all fall under suspicion…The family’s isolated farm becomes the setting for the electrifying exploration of a family tested by loyalty and love. ‘Defender Of The Faith’ is blackly comic and chillingly real, with an atmosphere taut with tension.
Directed by Andrew Flynn, Set Design by Owen MacCarthaigh,Costume Design by Petra Breathnach, Sound Design by Carl Kennedy.

Famous for its spellbinding music and sublime arias (especially Una Furtiva Lagrima), Donizetti’s ever-popular romantic comedy, The Elixir of Love (L’elisir d’amore) has it all, from unrequited love, to devious deception and thwarted passion. Innovative director Oliver Mears (NI Opera) updates the action to a university campus, where Adina is a lecturer and Nemorino a nerdy student. Desperately in love with the beautiful but unattainable Adina, Nemorino is conned by fraudster Dr Dulcamara to buy some fake love potion, pledging himself to the army in order to pay for it. Sung in English, The Elixir of Love features a powerful cast led by Anthony Flaum (Nemorino) and Anna Patalong as Adina with Irish Soprano Sarah Reddin ‘who sparkles as the coquettish Giannetta’. John Molloy is the crafty Dulcamara and James McOran Campbell is Belcore, the lusty army recruitment officer. Conducted by Fergus Sheil, Design by Annemarie Woods, Costumes by Ilona Karas, Lighting by Kevin Treacy.

The first flowerings of scientific truth crushed by the bully church.
‘The Universe is a divine miracle Galileo, not a clockwork toy! ‘Proof’ denies faith, and without faith we are nothing.’ This reprimand of Pope Urban contained Galileo’s tragedy - a mistaken belief that all he had to do was show his reasoning and evidence and the church would fall in behind him.
After premiering in Indianapolis in 2008 this one-man rollercoaster stars Tim Hardy (professor at RADA, veteran of The Royal Shakespeare Company, and star of major European tours) and is written by Emmy Award winner Nic Young.

Members of the group have made music as far back as the1970s.

Aladdin
Dealing with Ireland’s social nightlife, Nocturnes, Jack Hickey’s most recent collection, illustrates the beautiful, the ridiculous, and the menacing of the clouded contemporary cityscape. The work explores the shaded underclass of the nocturnal urban terrain and pursues the disenfranchised as they search their city for meaning once darkness falls. Jack Hickey was born in 1988 in the small town of Cobh, Jack graduated from Crawford College of Art & Design in 2011 and has since garnered much critical acclaim. His work attempts to illuminate the emptiness at the centre of human relationships, the inherent lack of meaningful interaction between different people, different sexes and different realities. The open space in the work represents the distance between individuals, the unsaid and the unrequited. It is an example of the void inherent in a modern, socially fractured world, where true human contact has become illusive, almost impossible. This will be Jack Hickey’s fourth solo show and his first solo exhibition in Kerry.

Post Colony is a film project which explores the natural, industrial
and colonial histories of Killarney National Park. A master
woodwright initiates seven participants in greenwoodworking
processes to produce charcoal burners’ one legged stools from
the invasive species Rhododendron. Finally the group holds an
overnight vigil to reduce the troublesome plant to pure charcoal.
Shot in 16mm, the film investigates ideas concerning the social and
cultural agency of handwork in the 21st century and the production
and performance of new and experimental material cultures for the
camera. Gareth Kennedy’s work is invested in a socially engaged
practice which addresses specific environmental, social, aesthetic
and economic concerns within located contexts. Recently, he has
been developing an anthropological aesthetic to generate ‘folk
fictions’. These works draw on the social, cultural and economic
history of a people and a place to craft work that is a meaningful
composite of these histories.

Tralee Art Group is happy to return to Siamsa for its annual
exhibition. This year the exhibition will again be curated by
artist and printmaker Niall Naessens. This is the groups’ second
collaboration with Niall.
In contrast to our last exhibition, when the emphasis was on
printmaking, this year members will explore the theme of the four
elements sacred to the ancients, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The
artists will produce work in oils, acrylic, watercolour and mixed
media. Some members of the group will take elements from their
work and use them to create prints.
