Pennsylvania anthra-cite production was 86.2Q0.000 tons,compared with 98,826,000 in 1918.The greatest decrease from 1918 pro¬duction was in November, during theminers' strike, when bituminous mines

produced only 18,688,000 tons, as com¬pared with 43,895,080 tons in 1918.Bituminous production last month,.however, was less than 4,000,000 tonsbelow that of December, 191K.

Output of TalkingMachines Below Demand

Although the output of talkingmachines has now reached 2,500,000 ayear, it is said that the aupply is Iag-ging behind the demand. Only ten yearsold, the industry comprises 300 manu¬facturing concerns and 30,000 dealers.Eighteen concerns nrc marketingrecords under their own names, and thooutput of one of J,he larger concernsamounts to 30,000 rocords a day. Atpresent it is estimated that 3,250,000flat disk machines nro in use, but thedemand, because of the period of highwages, is reported to be higher thanever before.

1,800 U. of P. Students WorkPITTSBURGH, Jan. 8..The employ¬

ment bureau of the University of Pitts-burgh reports that about 1,800 under-graduates of the institution earn all orpart of their expenses. The bureau hasplaced 1,021 women students in posi-tions where they work outside of schoolhours. More than 800 of them workedin stores, offices or other businesshouses during their Christmasvacation.
