Getting Ideas

Process of Writing a Classification Essay

It should be simple and straightforward.

The thesis statement introduces immediately the different categories of a bigger subject that will be discussed in the next paragraphs.

Writing an Introduction

It discusses each individual category mentioned in the introduction.

It should define, explain, and provide examples for each categories mentioned in the thesis statement.

It sometimes shows the similarities and/or differences of your subtopics.

Kind/type/group: these are the common transition words of classification essay.

Writing the Main Paragraphs

It shows the summarization of your essay. It states the proof or disproof or your

theme that is stated in the introduction. The conclusion restates the categories

showing their significance in the main subject.

In writing a conclusion, you will notice that the categories are now one drawing their unity and relevance in the subject.

Writing the Conclusion

THE LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST…

Revision does not mean "recopying" what you've already written. Revision means making changes to the content of the paper so that every word, sentence, and paragraph makes sense to the reader.

Three areas in particular to examine as you consider how to improve the content and style of your essay are as follows:

1. Clarity: Is the essay clearly and logically written?2. Unity: Do all the paragraphs relate to the central

idea?3. Coherence: Do the ideas flow smoothly?
