WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP “ Christ Is Alive” Arranged by Joseph M. Martin (to be sung by the choir)
Gathering
† HYMN “Raise Your Joys and Triumphs High”
Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, y heav’ns, and earth, reply, Alleluia!
Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened Paradise, Alleluia!
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now they sting? Alleluia!
Dying once He all doth save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!
Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Gracious God, we confess that while we know well the story of your victory over the grave, it is not a story we always live. We are dragged down by all manner of death – Fear may suffocate us: the loss of dreams and hopes for ourselves, our families, our communities and our nation. Sorrow may wall us off like a grave, isolating us with anger, frustration, and grief. Yet, our faith is inscribed not with the marks of death, but with the word, “Alleluia!” So on this Easter morning, we pray that you will fill us with “fear and great joy” so that, like those women who came to the tomb expecting death, we may instead find the radiant new life that is ever before us in your Resurrection! Amen.

Nursery and childcare services are always available during service for infants through Kindergarten.
We are excited today to welcome three young people to the Lord’s Table for the first time: Maggie Hartsell, James Ide, and Bella Rockel. Through a variety of activities led by Sharon Vanpelt, Director of Christian Education, these children recently spent an afternoon learning about key elements of the sacraments with an emphasis on the Lord’s Supper. They also helped Worship committee members to bake communion wafers and learned how the elements of communion are prepared. In recognition of this special moment in their journey of faith, they will be served communion by the pastor. Welcome to the Lord’s Table, Maggie, James, and Bella!

† CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE HYMN #108 Verse 1
Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love, drowned in death, shall never die.
POSTLUDE
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
till all the world adore his sacred name.
Come, Christians, follow where our captain trod;
our King victorious, Christ, the Son of God.
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
till all the world adore his sacred name.
All new born servants of the Crucified
bear on their brows the seal of Him who died.
Oh Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree,
as Thou hast promised draw us all to Thee
Lift high the Cross, the love of Christ proclaim
till all the world adore His sacred name.
So shall our song of triumph ever be:
Praise to the Crucified for victory!
Lift high the Cross, the love of Christ proclaim
Till all the world adore his sacred name.
Amen, amen, amen.
Thank you Scott Biggers for assisting with worship today! Scott Biggers grew up in Rocky River Presbyterian and has fond memories of spending time running around as a youth and worshipping here through his life. He is on track to graduate from Union Presbyterian Seminary on June 3rd, 2017 with a Masters of Divinity and is planning to be ordained shortly after. While at Seminary he discerned his call to join the Baptist Church, more specifically the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, where he intends to live out his ministry. Scott and his fiance Catherine plan to marry on August 5th, and they are looking forward to wherever God calls them.
