CIUDAD INSTANTANEAFarehAboganem

uadalajara has become the epicenter for the once a year reunion of over

4 400,000 members for The Light of the World Church. Given its exceedingly

f fast growth, about one thousand predicates become members’ everyday

r around the world; it is projected that by the year 2020 the membership will

i increase by 3,600,000 adding to the existing 5,000,000 membership. This

membership Growth is demanding a high amount of space for the temporary two-week

stay event. Through a number of investigations it has been noted that locals whom pertain

to the same Group welcome other members to their homes utilizing Kitchens, Living rooms,

Dining rooms even roof tops as sleeping quarters, Disrupting their daily routine. This investi-

gation recognizes that with the increase in members being allocated in the same space the

experience for the faithful will not be the same. In order to deal with the increase in mem-

bership The Light of the World Church needs a radical strategy.

The strategy should extend beyond the invasion of existing homes and grow to include

new distribution of Temporary pods that will propagate and contain the minimal essentials

to house members for the time of the event. This new units will house members that come

from countries that are not economically secure like Haiti, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala and

Oaxaca. Providing an appropriate space that enhances their experience, while planning for

the main event including public ttings. As Architecture this oers a number of key spatial

and tectonic attributes to the modern and growing environment.

This thesis proposes the design of an Instant city that will answer to the need for members

that are coming from countries that have a low socioeconomic status, the proposed sleep-

ing quarters will no longer disrupt the fabric, this strategy decreases the common need of

land and Disruption of existing homes and exploits the “Inhabitable” unused space that

exists on the roof tops of the existing homes arraying from the main temple, the project will

take on the above space and will take into consideration the sun pattern and climate

change to maintain the luminosity needed in the converted public space. This strategy

should become a solution for the rapid growing practice, and sustainable solution that

allows the existing infrastructure to perform better. Through this structure I propose to alle-

viate the crowding of houses and ease the burden put on the locals adding to the comfort

of the locals as well as their daily routine, leaving behind a much needed roof garden for

locals to enjoy throughout the year while maintaining the integrity of the event and en-

hancing the pilgrimage to the city.
