PERPETUAL ADORATION
Throughout the Christmas season, we joyfully sang out, “O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord”. While we no longer sing the hymn during Ordinary time we should still come and adore Jesus. As we move through the liturgical year, we quickly encounter Jesus the teacher, the miracle worker, the forgiver of sins, the Redeemer. We should be moved to come and adore Jesus as we see His great love and mercy for us.
Our Blessed Sacrament Chapel is open 24/7 so that we can come and adore Jesus. You might find it convenient to stop into the Chapel before or after work. Perhaps as a stay-at-home mom, you might be able to come to adore Jesus while the children are at school. If a loved one is ill, you might stop in to beg Jesus for healing before or after you have visited at the hospital. Come. Just come and adore Jesus. He is true God and true man and He waits for you day and night. He will be pleased to see you, to hear of your love or your weariness. Come, as the shepherds came to the manger so long ago. You, too, will be refreshed and see things in a new light.
Our Chapel is open continuously because of dedicated Guardians of the Eucharist. Eachone has committed to being with Our Lord for one particular hour of one particular day each week. Without them, we could not keep the Chapel open. Perhaps Jesus is calling you to be a Guardian. For more information, call Marty or Clarice Suchy at 845-692-4510.
FOR WEATHER-RELATED CLOSINGS OF THE CHAPEL YOU MAY CALL THE CHAPEL RECORDING 845-956-1455 (this number might not work from a Spectrum house phone)
YOU MAY ALSO CALL: 845-343-6013, ext. 105
ST. JOSEPH’S PURGATORIAL SOCIETY All parishioners have the opportunity to enroll the names of deceased loved ones in the Purgatorial Society. The Purgatorial Society Mass will be held on the last Friday of each month at 12:10 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel beginning in January, 2020. The offering to be enrolled in the Purgatorial Society is $120 per name (a total of 12 Masses for one year will be said for your loved one). Please stop by the Parish Office if you are interested in having a loved one enrolled. Aside from listing one name, the listing of a husband and wife together or a family name is also acceptable. Enrollment in the St. Joseph’s Purgatorial Society is a great act of charity towards our beloved dead ensuring that they are being prayed for all year round at God’s Altar. The names of the souls for whom we are praying will be visibly presented on an elegant board placed in the sanctuary at the Purgatorial Society Mass. You may enroll at any time during the year and will be contacted for the opportunity to renew your enrollment for another year just before the twelfth and final Mass of your enrollment is offered.

BAPTISM AND LIFE
Today we are presented with the mystery of Christ’s baptism and our own. Jesus is baptized in order to reveal himself as God’s only Son, and to reveal His mission of sharing that son-ship with us sinners. The reality of His mission, and our status as baptized Christians, help us understand our commitment to a culture of life. Baptism gives us our identity as “the people of life.” “Baptized into Christ’s victory over death, we are also sent to proclaim, celebrate, and serve that victory. When we renew the vows of our baptism, we say that we “reject Satan and all his works.” Chief among those works is death. Yet the Son of God has destroyed death, and that means that we who follow Him likewise are called to stand against it. Abortion, euthanasia, the death penalty are all a contradiction to baptism. Baptism expresses the hospitality of God’s Church, and the responsibility incurred by the fact that God has entrusted us to the care of one another.
SHORT THOUGHT ON THE SCRIPTURES
The greatest act of love we can show others is to let them go to the Lord, to direct them to the Lord as John the Baptist directed his own disciples. There was only so much John could do in leading his disciples to Jesus. They had to make their own personal response to the call of Jesus to come and see. There is only so much any of us can do to lead others to the Lord. At some point, we need to make our own personal response to the Lord’s personal call to each one of us to come and see, and then to remain with him.
-- Deacon Albert Loeffler
HOLY HOUR FOR HEALING There will be a Holy Hour for Healing and Reparation today, January 12, at 3 p.m. Individual prayer and anointing will be given after the Holy Hour to those who desire it. For more information, please call Deacon Alex Gapay at 914-443-1435. .
FLU SEASON IS HERE The flu season has started with medical personnel reminding us to wash our hands with warm, soapy water and to cover our coughs and sneezes. At church, we will not offer the exchange of peace, as we have done in the past. Please respect your neighbors at Mass. We will resume inviting all to exchange a sign of peace when the flu season has passed.
UPDATES FOR THE NEW YEAR
As we begin a new year, our Catechists are taking the children over to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel for brief periods of Eucharistic Adoration. Once again, we’d like to thank Deanna Villegas and Dominick Russo for their leadership in coordinating the Christmas Children’s Mass and Pageant. We remind all catechists and parents that 50/50 Calendar Raffle tickets are still available in the Religious Education Office. If you have not purchased a calendar raffle, please stop in the office. We have a full month of classes in January. In case of bad weather, please remember that we follow the Middletown School District. If Middletown Schools are closed … we are closed. If after-school activities are cancelled … Religious Education classes are cancelled. May God bless you all in this New Year of 2020!
