“Think Inside The Box”
Join us in support of Rice and Beans Ministries in Costa Rica. Boxes are to be
filled for children of their ministry there. The boxes are in the gym and fellow-
ship hall. You choose who you want the box to go to and fill it. Bring it back to
church with $10 for shipping. There is a list of items needed and what not to
pack. Please contact the office of Melissa Tate for questions. 662-266-4898.

Get Connected! Stay Connected!
In this time of social distancing, it’s important that we stay connected to one another. Below are
some worship and study opportunities to help feed your soul. Please get in touch with Jill,
Thomas, or Tim to get help connecting to any of these opportunities.
Worship—9:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mornings You can watch traditional worship on our website, www.fumcnewalbany.com, as
well as Facebook Live on our official church page (First United Methodist Church
of New Albany) at 11:00 or the Embrace service at 9:00 on Facebook. Both sources
will have the services archived for later viewing, but please attend service if possi-
ble.
Brother Tim’s Bible Study—6 p.m. Wednesday Evenings
Jill’s Bible Study—10:00 a.m. Thursday Mornings
Children’s Wednesday Night Activities— 6:00 p.m.
Sunday School Classes—Some of our adult Sunday School classes are
using Zoom, Facebook Live, and Group Me to continue to stay connected. Talk to
your Sunday School teacher/leader to find out how to get involved.
There are plenty of Sunday School books in the office - just let us
know if you want some for distribution to your class until we are
able to meet together. *****************************************
Don’t forget!
Not that we really want or need an-
other hour in this year, but
we will need to set our clocks back one
hour & change our smoke alarm bat-
teries on Saturday night, October 31.
(Make sure you have batteries!)

Pastor’s Pen
Dear Church Family,
It is so important for a church to be outwardly-focused on the community and world, and I
have always been impressed with our congregation’s rich history of mission and ministry. Cur-
rently, we have four mission initiatives with which you will want to consider getting involved.
3rd Grade Reading Support—Contact Jill Shaw for more detailed information, but there is a
need for van drivers, snack preparers, and readers. This ministry is scheduled to begin in Octo-
ber.
Backpacks for the Area Homeless—We have been collecting supplies for some time now,
and, when assembled, these backpacks will go to area hospitals to benefit homeless patients
who are discharged. This is an incredible opportunity to be a blessing to those who literally
have nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Costa Rica Christmas Boxes—The “shoe” boxes are available in both the CLC and the Old
Fellowship Hall along with instructions for what can and can’t go in the boxes. Be sure to pick
one up, fill it with the appropriate items, and return it back to the church by November 1. You
will make this Christmas extra special for a child in Costa Rica and help the Rice and Beans
Ministry share the Gospel of Christ.
Christmas Store—Christmas will be here before you know it, and that means our Methodist
elves will be hard at work making sure our Christmas Store is organized and ready for shop-
pers. If you would like to volunteer this year, please call the church office and let us know!
I write this article as a source of encouragement. Know that the church was never closed and
that we have never stopped doing the work of God. Get involved with one of these wonderful
mission projects and even encourage your Sunday Class, small group, or Bible study to support
these efforts as well.
Know that I’m proud of you, FUMC. We are making a difference in the world for Christ.
Blessings,
Tim
