charlie ramirezMy surf career did not start like most other pros. In fact I rarely competed as an amateur and the majority of my youth was spent on the asphalt skating rather than in the water surfing. By the time I was 11, I was considered good enough to be the youngest team rider for the elite Island Skate Team. At the age of 17 I was a sponsored skateboarder by Ezekiel and Chocolate.

In my early teens I started surfing, but it was not until high school when I became to take it more serious. I went to college in Miami where I lived beachfront in art deco Miami Beach, a place that influence my art, and most importantly my skate-like surf style. Because of my skateboarding background and the minimal waves south Florida has to offer, I adapted and integrated my skateboarding into my surfing and suddenly became one of the first legit aerialist in and from Puerto Rico.

...Lost made its first and only Surf Jam in PR in 2003. At this Surf Jam I approached ...Lost owner Mike Reola with a home made VHS demo and my first full page editorial in Mundo Rad Magazine. That night I was told I was one of the best east coast aerialists he had ever seen and immediately got sponsored and was on a plane the next month.

In 2010 I was given a signature boardshort from my clothing sponsor, dunkelvolk, in which I was able to show the world some of my art. In 2011, ciclon, my energy sponsor supported my idea for an awareness event, including a beach clean up, a free surf clinic and breast cancer awareness info from Susan G. Komen, self-titled “Charlie Ramirez and Friends”. In Summer 2011 I developed a collaboration between dunkelvolk and ciclon, it featured a signature t-shirt and boardshort. Now for winter 2012 I was fortunate to design some pieces for the dunkelvolk line under Art Colaborations, as both artist and team rider.
