Chapter 10 Vocabulary

1. Warrant- A document issued by a judge that says exactly what cops can search or who they can arrest.

2. Self incrimination- When you make yourself out to be guilty of a crime (you talk your way into trouble).

3. Defendant- A person in court that is accused of a crime or is being sued.4. Trial- A process where you go before a judge or jury, and they listen to evidence

to determine if you’re guilty of a crime.5. Testify- To give evidence as a witness (I.E., you were there when a crime was

committed) in court.6. Impartial- Fair 7. Jury- A group of people in court who listen to evidence and decide if you’re

guilty or not.8. Convict- To find someone guilty of a crime9. Plea- A statement by a defendant stating guilt or innocence to a criminal charge in

front of a judge.10. Verdict- A court decision (I.E., guilty or innocent).
