ABOUT ME

Greetings. My name is Layla Cecil. Born and raised in Northwest Georgia, I moved to Southeast Florida in 2004.

I completed my Bachelor’s in Philosophy, with a Classics concen-tration, at FIU in 2009. Moreover, I am slated to graduate from USF with a Master’s in Instructional Technology in May of 2013. I am also currently pursuing a Web Development degree at High Tech North in Cape Coral; I am scheduled to complete this program in June of 2013.

My current interests include motion and infographic design, programming, contemporary French Classical scholarship, and responsive design.

COLOR PROFILE For this assignment, I was tasked with generating a color scheme from an inspirational image, mapping the selected colors to a color wheel, and then applying the color scheme to a design project of my choosing.

This project was a joy to work on, and I was very pleased with the end results.

COLOR PROFILE

For my inspiration image, I chose an image of my home town, Rome, Georgia. This picture captures Rome’s Broad Street, as seen from atop a parking deck on a hill above Rome’s Downtown district.

I immediately felt drawn to the light blues of the sky, as well as the darker blue of the roof in the foreground. In this early stage of my project, I chose to pursue a monochromatic color scheme featuring my favorite color : blue.

My color choices can be seen, here. Each color swatch is presented in its own tile; moreover, the colors are also mapped relative to one another on a color wheel.

COLOR PROFILE, CTD.

I knew, from the onset of this project, that I wanted to create a website design with my color profile.

Not only am I working towards my Master’s degree, I’m also currently enrolled in a full-time web development program, at a local technical school.

I came across the Nina font featured on Freebiesbug.com and immediately felt drawn to the font. It’s such a strong type-face. I made it a point to incorporate it into my website design.

Grids are crucial to web design, espe-cially owing to the need for responsive web design (design that can accommodate multiple devices and screen sizes).

For this project, I used a 16-column grid template from the 960.gs site.

COLOR PROFILEAs the web has matured, the structure

of websites has grown more uniform and predictable. For this assignment, I wanted to conform with “best practices” for my template design.

The wireframe, to the left, represents my early vision for the site.

The majority of the elements shown (including the logo, contact information, navigation, featured image, site map, and bottom-logo) are in their customary loca-tions for web interface design.

COLOR PROFILE, CTD.I enjoyed working on this design, and I

was very pleased with my initial draft. The 16-column grid proved to be very

helpful, and the Nina font added a consid-erable amount of character to the page.

During the critique stage of the project, my peers recommended the addition of a complementary color to my color scheme to serve as an accent color.

COLOR PROFILEI returned to my inspiration image and

ultimately selected an orange color to help augment the design.

I was impressed with the results. The orange really helps guide the user’s eye through the site and adds visual interest to the page.

I loved working on this project, and I’m quite proud of the end design.
