Volunteer Advocate Work Sheet
On Capitol Hemp Day there will be several opportunities to let your voice be heard. There are
many things that must be done as I am coordinating it all in one day. Here is a preliminary
schedule (subject to change).
March 17, 2015 St. Patricks Day 6:30/7:00 amHemp Walkers/Talkers meet to coordinate final duties 8:30 amCapitol advocates meet and finish all details about assignments and duties. Tables will be set up on 1
st and 3
rd floors.
9:00am Capitol Hemp Day Begins with first Hemp Chain
11:30am to 1:30pm viewing of Bringing it Home in the 1st floor rotunda. I will present current legislative status and North American Financial report
Q n A session after film is finished
4:00 pm Hemp Talkers take signatures to Jay Nixon office
5:00 pm Capitol Hemp Day Ends
After party at J Pfennys Sports Grill & Pub on East High Street
To give people a chance at variety and to choose an action that fits them, I have divided the
advocate roles into these categories.
Hemp Chain Hemp Talker Hemp Walker Capitol Hemp Day volunteer (manning tables, handing out information and samples)
1. Hemp Chain: this is a group of people that will hold up the flyer in this packet and walk
single file chanting what is written on the flyer as they walk the 3rd
and 4th
floors of the capitol. I
am not sure about the 2nd
. These people will coordinate each chain per the first half hour as
follows:
9:00-9:30
10:00-10:30
11:00-11:30
Dead Zone (Viewing of Bringing it Home) 2:00-2:30
3:00-3:30
These individuals should be in good physical shape and have a strong voice. I would like to
have different people on each chain, but if numbers are low I will use the same people if they
wish. I am keeping the number of participants of the chains openthe longer the better.
2. Hemp Talker: These are individuals that will take the signature sheet and sign it themselves.
Then, they will print off ten copies and find ten people to sign it as well. These people can also
Missouri Hemp Network

print off as many copies as they wish and go out to gather signatures. From my own experiences
in gathering signatures I have found the following areas to be the most fruitful.
Post office Library DMV/License Bureau Mallweekends (Columbia, Kansas City, or St Louis Malls)
These are just a few suggestions. Gathering signatures for money you learn a few tricks. Instead
of chasing them down, let them come to you. Try to remember the difference between public
domain and private property. Ask permission before you begin if you are not sure. I have found
retailers and movie theaters to be open to things if you ask firstjust a suggestion.
If you choose to gather signatures on a mass scale in public, please do the following: dress as to
impress, courtesy is key, answer what you can and say I dont now when you cant, wear a name tag with an organization on it (Missouri Hemp Network), dont argue EVER, and always say thank you no matter the end result. Also, have with you a listing of State Senators/ State
Representatives to aid each signee. Otherwise, just let them write in Jay Nixon. Also, try to take as many pictures that you can. Putting a face to Hemp support will go a long way. I will post them on my facebook page after it is over as well as the sponsors social network.
My goal for the signature campaign is 1,500 signatures to hand to Jay Nixon on or around the
hearings. If we can get more that would be great, but 1,500 is the goal.
When finished, either you can bring them with you to the Capitol or mail them to me. I prefer
that you bring them to the capitol so you can participate in the event.
3. Hemp Walkers (if weather permits): These are groups of people who will make signs that
are pro Hemp farming (Honk for Hemp) and stand at points of sale all over Jefferson City. I
suggest one hour shifts, but if someone doesnt want to deal with the dress and protocol of the Capitol arena then they can do it as long as they wish. The signs should be made of cardboard,
cloth, foam, corrugated plastic or thin light wood. Keep in mind when building your signs that
they should be readable to drivers and passers-by as well as light enough for you to carry over a
set duration of time. These people should be healthy enough to withstand the conditions of the
day. That is why I suggest working in teams.
Again, these people should follow the same rules as the Hemp Talkers in regards to the dealing
with the public or police. At least one person per team should have a recording device just in
case.
I suggest groups of four in this endeavor. It is also possible for Hemp Talkers and Hemp
Walkers to work together to get more attention.
Here is a list of ultimate times for point of sale: rush hour and lunch
Here is a list of spots I would like to cover:
Missouri Hemp Network
Steven Wilson 2015
1. East Capitol and Jefferson
2. West Capitol roundabouts
3. Broadway and Route 50
4. West Main Street and Capitol Avenue
5. Missouri Blvd. and Bolivar/Dunklin
6. Missouri Blvd. and Route 50
7. Missouri Blvd. across from McDonalds, Chipolte, El Jimador
8. Missouri Blvd. and Dix Road
9. Missouri Blvd. and Stadium
10. Missouri Blvd. and Route 179 south
11. Missouri Blvd. and Route 179 North
12. Missouri Blvd. and Country Club road
13. Mall Walkers/Talkers at W. Truman Blvd.
14. Dunklin St. and Lafayette
15. Bridge at West main St.
16. Wal-Mart at Supercenter drive roundabouts
Focus on Intersections with lights. A few moments reading a Hemp sign is pure gold.
These are just suggestions. If you know of high traffic areas that you feel comfortable in then go
for it. I am going to try and set up a coordinator for both the Hemp Walkers and the Hemp
Talkers. I will coordinate the Hemp Chain myself.
4. Hemp Home-landers: These are people who support Industrial Hemp Farming but cannot
make it to Capitol Hemp Day. These people will orchestrate things in their own city or county. I
ask that you follow the same guidelines as stated above as I have sponsors that dont want their brand equity altered or diminished in Missouri. I will coordinate these things as time allows.
With 24 hour notice I can set up a time to skype with team leaders or coordinators
