Managing hybrid canopies
Same concepts apply as in vinifera – but different practices are required to achieve a balanced, open canopy
• Choose training system and CM practices based on growth habit (upright vs. procumbent), anticipated vigor, site, and growing season
• Don’t undercrop! (But don’t overcrop…). Calculate cropload on 5 sentinel vines per acre.
• ST and CT if needed (often on vigorous hybrids)
