APPLICATIONSMeasuring luminance distributionsThemeasurementof luminancedistributionsL(x,y)allows thecomplexevaluationofnumerous lighting-engineeringdevices. (lamps, luminaires, projectorsand lightcontrolsystems)aswellas theevaluationof illuminationscenes. The imaging luminancemeasuring technologyprovides theacquisitionofbothphotometricparametersandgeometricaldata,thusallowingtheusertodeterminefurtherlighting-engineeringquantities(luminousintensity,illuminance).Fordescribing lighting-engineeringobjects,notonlysimulationdatabutalsovariousmeasuringdataarenecessary:• descriptionof luminousand illuminatedsurfacesof lampsand lighting fixturesby their luminancedistributionsL(x,y)

• glare assessment (e.g. according to theUGRstandard)

• determinationof contrastsandspatial contrastdistributions

• determinationof the illuminancedistributionE(x,y)on illuminatedsurfaces (withdiffusely reflectingLambertcharacteristic)bymeansoftheluminancedistribution

Ray model basic data of the RIGO 801Forluminairesimulations(e.g.calculationofreflectorsinheadlamps),fortheplanningofilluminationsystemsorforraytracingmethods(computersimulationoflivingspacesandthingslikethat),thedataoftheradiating/luminousobjectsarenecessary.The fulldescriptionof the radiationconditionsofasurfacerequires toindicatetheluminancedistributionLx,y,z,λ(ϑ,ϕ)inallsurfacepoints(x,y,z)Surfaceoftheobject.(Differingspectraldistributionsonthesurfaceitselfarenotconsideredhere.)Asasurfacecanbedescribedbytwoparametersz=f(x,y)-a4D-datafieldresultsL(ϑ,ϕ,x,y).

Thedata records thusobtainedpermit theuser todescribeobjectsusing raymodels.Raymodelsarealreadyused inmanysimulationprograms. However, theyareoftenbasedonsynthetic,mathematicallydefinedmodelsfortheluminousobjects(e.g.descriptionofafilament).

Insomecases,modeldatamaydescribe theactuallyused lampsand luminairesonly insufficiently.Therefore,thereisahighdemandformeasureddata.If theluminanceconditionsonthesurface(raydata)aretobedetermined, individualsensorswhichperformintegralmeasurementscannotbeemployed.Therequireddatacan,inprinciple,bemeasuredbymeansofanimageresolvingluminancemeasuringcamera(LMK)*onapositioningunit (goniometer).Thiskindofmeasuringdevice isofferedby theTechnoTeamcompanyasRIGO801device indifferentversions. Ithasalreadystooditstest inabigvarietyofdifferentapplications.

Application of the measuring dataThemeasurementof the4D-luminancedistributionofmeasuringobjects opensupnewpossibilities of describingphotometricobjects, integrating themintosimulationprograms, andobtainingdata fordocumentationandplanning. On thebasisof the raymodel, abignumberofphotometricparametersof luminaires/lampscanbedeterminedusingtheRIGO801device.• Conventionalplanningdata(LID)forlightplanning• Datafornear-fieldapplications(NearfieldLID)• Luminancedistributions• Data for programs for the computerassisted simulationofcomplexphotometricassemblies

Planning of illumination systemsThenear-fieldgoniophotometertypeRIGO801makesconventionalluminous intensitydistribution fittings (LID)of luminaires/ lampsavailable.

Atpresent, standardprograms for theplanningof illuminationsystemsmostly use the luminous intensity fittings (LID) ofluminairesasstartingdata. However, in theevaluationusingLID,theluminaires/lampsareregardedonlyaspointmeasuringobjects,whichisfullysufficientformanycasesofapplication.

Evaluation of luminance distributionsTheinternaldatabaseisthe4D-luminancedatafield,whichresultedfrom2D-luminancedatameasuredat therespectiveobservationpositions (camerapositions throughgoniometercontrol). Thus, also theseoriginal luminance imagesareavailableandcanbeevaluatedusingtheLMK-functions.Theimage-resolvingmeasuringdevicescannotonlybecombinedwithcertainmodulesofimageprocessing,butalsowithoptionsfortherecordingandmeasurementofgeometricalrelations(lengths,angles, solidangles), thuspermittingabignumberofderivedparameterstobeobtained, too.

Full description of the luminous objectsForallthosetaskswherethedataobtainedasmentionedabovearenotsufficient, thecompletemeasuringdatacanbeused.Thisconcerns, forexample, theraytracingmethodsforreflectorcalculationsondownlightsorheadlamps, theraycalculationofcomplex illuminationsystems(e.g.projec tors)andothers.Thedatarecordsavailableaftermeasurementcanbeconvertedintothoseformatsusedbythefollowingsimulationorevaluationprograms.
