4 gifts that we give to Jesus
Both examples show us how we can give Jesus the
Gift of Our Worship
Luke 2 & 7
Luke 2:1-14In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the
first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to his own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of
Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he
belonged to the house and line of
Luke 2:1-14David.5 He went there to register with
Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in
cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in
the inn.8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch
Luke 2:1-14over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to
them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a
Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.12 This will be a sign to
you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths
Luke 2:1-14and lying in a manger." 13Suddenly a great
company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and
saying, 14"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his
favor rests."
Jesus deserves our gift of worship just because of
who He is
Luke 7:36-38Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the
Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. 37 When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she
brought an alabaster jar of perfume, 38 and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them
Luke 7:36-38with her hair, kissed them and poured
perfume on them.
Luke 7:39-5039 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this
man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman
she is--that she is a sinner." 40 Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something
to tell you." "Tell me, teacher," he said. 41 "Two men owed money to a
certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other
Luke 7:39-50fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of
both. Now which of them will love him more?" 43 Simon replied, "I suppose the
one who had the bigger debt canceled." "You have judged
correctly," Jesus said. 44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do
you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for
Luke 7:39-50my feet, but she wet my feet with her
tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell
you, her many sins have been forgiven--for she loved much. But he who has been
forgiven little loves little." 48 Then Jesus
Luke 7:39-50said to her, "Your sins are
forgiven." 49 The other guests began to say among themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?" 50 Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in
peace."
Her worship of Jesus came from what He had done in
her life
Her worship of Jesus cost her something
Are you giving Jesus the gift of your worship?
Are we worshiping Jesus because of who He is?
Are we worshiping Jesus because of what He’s
done in our lives?
Is our worship costing us anything?
Revelation 4:1-11After this I looked, and there before me
was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after
this." 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in
heaven with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance
of jasper and carnelian. A
Revelation 4:1-11rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled
the throne. 4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and
seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and
had crowns of gold on their heads. 5From the throne came flashes of lightning,
rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing.
These are the seven spirits of God. 6 Also
Revelation 4:1-11before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the
center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with
eyes, in front and in back. 7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second was
like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. 8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even
Revelation 4:1-11under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS THE Lord GOD ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS, AND IS, AND
IS TO COME." 9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives
for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on
the throne, and worship him who lives for
Revelation 4:1-11ever and ever. They lay their crowns
before the throne and say: 11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created
and have their being."
