Born in Duluth, Minnesota on May 24, 1941 Raised in Hibbing, Minnesota Raised in a traditional Jewish household by
Russian immigrants Was big fan of folk artist, Woody Guthrie and
rock & roll artist, Little Richard Moved to Minneapolis Minnesota in September
of 1959 to attend University of Minnesota.
Childhood
Moved to Greenwich Village, New York City in
January of 1961. Began performing in clubs with popular folk
musicians: Odetta, Carolyn Hester, Dave Jan Ronk.
Was discovered by producer John Hammond and signed to Columbia Records.
Wrote 24 studio albums, 13 live albums, 14 compilation albums, and 6 collaboration albums.
