BILL MACY, co-star of the hit television serie.s, "Maude," began his career two decades ago on the New York stage. After he graduated from New York University School of Education, where he majored in drama, Macy started making the rounds in New York. On Broadway, he understudied Walter Matthau in "Once More With Feeling." Off-Broadway he appeared in "Three Penny Opera," "Machinal," "The Balcony," "America Hurrah," "The Cannibals," "Awake and Sing," and "Oh! Calcutta!"
In 1971, again on Broadway, he starred opposite Julie Harris in Paul Zindel's "And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little." That production toured major cities of the United States including Los Angeles where Norman Lear, who had seen Bill in some of the aforementioned productions, cast him opposite Beatrice Arthur in "Maude."
Bill and Samantha now live in Los Angeles with their two cats, Rocky Raccoon and Tabetha.
We welcome the Macys to the Mary Moody Northen stage.
SAMANTHA HARPER was born and raised in Mississippi, where she spent most of her childhood riding horses and daydreaming of being a movie star. After highschool, she enrolled in the University of Mississippi -- where she learned a lot about football, friendship and philosophy, and a little bit about theatre, French and men.
She received a fellowship in the Performing Arts from the University of Illinois, where she earned a Master of Arts degree in 1965. The following year she waited tables at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, in a pinstriped dress and pinafore apron . Jobs in dinner theatres throughout the South were followed by a job serving drinks and singing at the Gaslight Club in New York. In 1969, Jacques Levy cast her in his San Francisco version of "Oh! Calcutta!" doing roles she later repeated in the Broadway and film versions of that play . Among her fellow actors in said film was Bill Macy. The two were married in May of this year. Miss Harper's most recent television appearance was in "Hot L Baltimore" as Clifford Ainsley's new sweetheart, Evie. She will appear in the yet to be released film "Reversals," produced and directed by Pablo Ferro and written by Julien Barry. She studies acting in Hollywood with Joan Darling .
