FAQ-Textbooks

1. What textbook do you use?

We have a class set of Realidades A that we use only to supplement our classes.

We do not follow the textbook so it is important that your student guard their binders and be careful not to take anything out of them. Their binders are essentially their textbook and contain all the information they need to know for class.

FAQ-Helping your child

2. I don’t speak Spanish; how do I help my student?

You can ask them the English, and they can give you the Spanish. You can also help them make flashcards with their vocab. as they receive new lists. Remember that they can use our tutorial times, as well, to come in for help, extra practice, and ask their questions.

FAQ-Amount of time to study

3 How much should my child study?

To be successful in learning a language in the school setting, it is a necessity that they study 20 minutes every night. This includes going over the concepts from that day and new vocabulary, as well as reviewing old concepts and vocab.

FAQ-High School Credit

4. How does the high school credit work?

They get ½ a high school

credit in 6th grade, ½ a credit in 7th grade, and 1 whole credit in 8th grade. So, when they go to high school they will have 2 credits and can enter into Spanish 3 as freshmen. This then allows them to continue all the way through AP Spanish 5 if they would like and earn college credit.

FAQ-Retesting

5. Are there any test re- takes?

Yes, following the school policy, students are allowed to re-take major tests if their score is lower than 79%, and after submitting a correction, and attending a tutorial session.

The re-teaching (tutorial) session will be offered at 8:15 Am.

FAQ-Planners 6. Should my child use a planner?

Homework should be written in your student’s planner everyday. It is part of our daily procedures—Come in, write down your homework, and start your warm-up. ELA classes write all their homework in their planners for the week on Monday. Please help us and your student by reinforcing the importance of writing in the planner everyday for each class. You can also check the teacher’s website for missing assignments, though not all assignments may be posted.
