TheroleofrewardsinrecognisingandpromotingAstreaAcademySheffield’svaluesisakeypartofdevelopingthepotentialofyoungpeoplebygivingencouragementandpraise.Praiseisakeycomponentofgoodteachingandgoodstaff/pupilrelationships.Goodbehaviour isalsobest promoted and developed by drawing attention to and rewarding well behaved and hardworking pupils. Powertousereasonableforce-PositiveHandling,PhysicalInventionAllmembersofstaffareregularlyupdatedwithregardtogovernmentguidanceregardingtheuseofPositiveHandling,PhysicalInterventionandDutyofCare.Membersofstaffhavethepowertousereasonableforcetopreventpupilscommittinganoffence,injuringthemselvesorothers,ordamagingproperty,andtomaintaingoodorderanddisciplineintheclassroom.TheactionsofstaffwillalwaysbeinthebestinterestofthechildandareinlinewithgovernmentguidelinesontheUseofReasonableForce.Undernocircumstanceswillphysical

DfEGuidance2013

ExclusionOnlytheheadteacher(ortheactingheadteacher)hasthepowertoexcludeachildfromschool.Theheadteachermayexcludeachildforoneormorefixedperiods,forupto45daysinanyoneschoolyear.Inextremeandexceptionalcircumstances,theheadteachermayexcludeachildpermanently.IfthePrincipalexcludesachild,s/heinformstheparentsimmediately,givingreasonsfortheexclusion.Atthesametime,theheadteachermakesitcleartotheparentsthattheycan,iftheywish,makerepresentationregardingtheexclusiontothegoverningbody.Theschoolinformstheparentshowtomakeanysuchrequest.ThePrincipalinformstheLAandthegoverningbodyaboutanypermanentexclusion,aboutanyfixed-termexclusionsbeyondfivedays(10lunchtimes)inanyonetermandshouldtheexclusionmeanthepupilwillmissapublicexamination.

BEHAVIOURSUPPORTAt Astrea Academy Sheffield we will support our pupils who are experiencing behavioural,emotionalorotherdifficultiesthatmightimpedeself-disciplineandeffectivelearning.Asstatedpreviously, we believe themost effectiveway ofmanaging behaviour is to praise and rewardgoodbehaviour.Thereareavarietyofmechanismsavailablewithearlyinterventionalwaysouraim.Where pupils are having difficulty conforming to the expected standards of behaviour variousstrategiesmaybeemployedtohelpthemimprove.Theuseofthedailyreportform:Althoughasanction,thisservesadualpurposeofenablingformtutors,HeadsofDepartmentorVicePrincipal tocheckonbehaviourandgive instant feedbackandencouragementwhere improvements areevident. This report is takenhome forparentalsignature and involves home and academy in daily monitoring and support. Parents will beinformediftheirchildisplacedonreport.ReportsissuedfromtheVicePrincipal.Ifapupil isupsetorneedssomeoneto talk toaboutan issue insideoroutsideof school, theyshould go toMain reception and speak to amember of staff. Some pupilswill be given earlylunchcards toattendpupil support lunchclub, foreither learningoremotional support. Other agencies such as social services, housing,voluntaryorganisations,thecareersservice,couldalsobeinvolvedasappropriate.Indrawinguptheplantheschoolwill,indiscussionwithothers:
