Dear Parent/Carer,
It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the Head Teacher of Battlefield
Primary School.
I am delighted to be leading the team at Battlefield at such an exciting time in
the school’s development. The school community at Battlefield is diverse, hard-
working and, most importantly, full of fun and enthusiasm!
We aim to meet the needs of all learners and offer a range of challenging and
enjoyable activities, both during the school day and beyond. We see parents
and carers as key partners and we offer many opportunities for you to be
actively involved in your child’s learning, and in the wider life of the school.
I am always happy to speak with children, staff or parents who have something
on their mind. Whether it is a worry or concern, a query or suggestion, I am
more than happy to talk it over. Please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will
always do my best to make time to see you.
In everything we do at Battlefield, we aim to ensure that the children have the
opportunity to:
Be Brave - Be Brilliant - Be Your Best at Battlefield

Learning at Battlefield
School Ethos
Our positive, welcoming ethos has been recognised by a range of visitors to
Battlefield Primary and we firmly believe that this is the foundation upon
which successful learning is built. Staff invest time in getting to know our
children and relationships are at the heart of our practice. At Battlefield
we have a Care Team, enabling every pupil to speak to a member of staff of
their choosing if and when they need to.
Battlefield is a nurturing school where children’s needs are met in a range of
ways by different members of the staff team.
Our Nurture Room, The Honeypot, enables us to help small groups of
Primary 1 children to settle into school life more effectively with increased
adult support. Mrs Wilson (Nurture teacher) and Mrs Carberry (Nurture
Assistant) work with a maximum of 6 children in the Honeypot. These
children remain part of their regular class but this targeted provision allows
increased personalisation and choice, flexibility to pupils’ individual strengths
and needs and enhanced communication with parents and carers to give them
the best opportunities for success in their learning journey at Battlefield.
Mrs Wilson also provides support for pupils throughout the school, running a
range of upper school groups focused on aspects of Health and Wellbeing.
By engaging with regular training to build staff capacity, we ensure that a
nurturing approach is our culture at Battlefield and not just the climate
within The Honeypot.

At Battlefield, good attendance is encouraged at all times. Families are
asked to advise the school if their child is going to be absent. This should
be done as early as possible on the first day of absence. The school uses
daily text messaging to inform parents and carers of absence if no contact
is made. All unexplained absence is investigated by the school. All calls
should be made to the Pupil Absence Reporting Line on 0141 287 0039.
The line is open between 08.00-15.30 Monday to Friday.
We encourage all families to make any medical appointments outwith school
hours as this time out of school means key learning is missed. If your child
has an unavoidable appointment, please send a note to your child’s teacher
and collect them from the school office.
It is also important that children arrive on time for school daily to avoid
disrupted learning for themselves and others. Regular late-coming can
become a bad habit and will be followed up by the school in an attempt to
support a positive change.

Parents should inform the school of any medical requirements relating to
their child. If a child requires medication during the school day, parents
must provide the medication and complete the appropriate medical form.
This is available on request from the school office.
If a child becomes ill during the school day, a phone call will be made using
their emergency contact details and he/she may require to be sent home.
The school nurse visits during the year for routine health checks,
vaccinations and medical examinations. Parents are kept informed by letter.
Information Sharing
At the start of each school session, parents will be issued with the annual
data check form. Please ensure that this is completed and returned to the
school as soon as possible. It is really important that you let us know if
there are changes to your telephone number(s) or to those of your
emergency contacts throughout the year.
We collect information about children attending school (and also about
parents/carers, emergency contacts etc. provided in the annual data check).
This may sometimes involve releasing personal information to other agencies
and parts of the Council, particularly in relation to child protection issues or
criminal investigations.
Information held by the school is, in legal terms, processed by Glasgow City
Council. The Council is registered as a data controller under the Data
Protection Act 1998 (number Z4871657) and all personal data is treated as
confidential and used only in accordance with the Data Protection Act and
the Information Use and Privacy Policy approved by the City Council. For

Through social studies, children and young
people develop their understanding of the
world by learning about other people and
places both past and present, societies,
their beliefs and values.
Children are involved at the planning stage
in order to identify areas of their interest
and skills they want to develop as Global
Citizens.
Social Studies
Knowing other languages and understanding
other cultures is a 21st century skill set
for students as they prepare to live and
work in a global society.
The main languages we learn in the school
is French, German and Gaelic.
At Battlefield, we have 31 community
languages spoken and we value the rich
learning opportunity that this provides for
all children and staff.
Languages
Religious and moral education includes
learning about Christianity, Islam and
other world religions and beliefs, and
supports the development of individual
beliefs and values. Our pupils will be
encouraged to develop respect for others
and understand religious diversity.
Some classes showcase their RME learning
throughout the year at assemblies for the
whole school and parents.
Religious and Moral
Education
The range of subjects in technical
education has changed significantly over
the last two decades and now includes
craft, design, engineering and graphics.
As part of Glasgow’s Connected Learning
programme, we now have pupil iPads in
every class.
We also have a digital learning suite where
children can use computers to improve
their digital skills

All children are assessed both formally and informally throughout the year
by the class teacher and at times, by the Senior Leadership Team.
Information on this will be shared with you at Parents’ Nights and through
your child’s online See Saw account.
Your child’s See Saw account is a private place for your family to share
their learning journey. It will display samples of work, photographs and
videos to evidence progress, including examples your child has identified
that they are especially proud of.
All Primary 7 children in Scotland complete a personal learning profile that
will aid their transition to Secondary School.
The school has a duty to ensure that all pupils have equal access to the
curriculum, with appropriate support for their needs if required. This
applies to the content of lessons, teaching strategies and minor adaptations
to the school environment. There are a wide range of factors which may
act as a barrier to learning. We are committed to working closely with
parents and carers to ensure that they are fully involved in any decisions
about support for their children’s needs.
Any parent or carer seeking further advice regarding this policy should
contact one of our DHTs, in the first instance.
Further information relating to additional support needs is available on the

On an annual basis, you will receive a copy of our Standards and Quality
report, highlighting progress in key curricular areas such as literacy,
numeracy and health and wellbeing. Our priorities for improvement are
detailed in our School Improvement Plan which is discussed with our Parent
Council. Both of these documents can be found on our school website.
Our staff team is dedicated to on-going school improvement and
participate in quality professional development opportunities throughout
the year. All school staff, children and parents are involved in identifying
areas for improvement and review. We are very proud of the opportunities
that we provide to promote purposeful and influential Pupil Voice. Children
make up our 6 committees that underpin our school improvement action.
Here at Battlefield Primary School, we are immensely proud of our high
standards of behaviour. The children enjoy coming to school here and are
proud to do so. Staff and children work very closely together and have
strong, positive relationships.
We worked hard for our Rights Respecting Schools Award and ensure we
do everything we can to make children aware of their rights as well as the
rights of others.
Through our weekly assemblies we identify with the children areas in the
school that could be improved. The children work together as classes and
within their house teams to make positive changes.
Staff implement a range of ‘in class’ strategies to continually promote

At Battlefield Primary we work hard to keep our children safe and take
care, welfare and protection of our children very seriously. We believe all
children have a right to feel safe within school, home and community.
With our school we strive to provide a safe, secure and nurturing
environment for our pupils, which promote inclusion and achievement. Every
staff member undergoes a minimum of once a year safeguarding and child
protection training, including revisiting our management circular on the
process involved in reporting and recording of any child protection
concerns. All staff have a statutory and professional responsibility to take
action if we have reason to believe a child is suffering, or is at risk.
Our child protection policy and procedures, set by the local authority,
demonstrate what we will do if we have reason to believe a child is at risk
of abuse, either within the home or the community. These policies are
designed to ensure that children get the help they need when they need it.
The school and local authority operates a multi agency Joint Support Team
to ensure that the best possible supports are available to pupils when they
need them.
The Child Protection Co-ordinators for the school are our Depute Head
Teachers: Mrs L Imrie and Mrs C Rodger (Acting DHT). If you wish any
