Introduction

• Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five

active players each try to score points against one

another by propelling a ball through a 10 feet (3 m) high

hoop (the goal) under organized rules. Basketball is one of the most popular

and widely viewed sports in the world.

• Points are scored by shooting the ball through the basket above; the team with more

points at the end of the game wins. The ball can be advanced

on the court by bouncing it (dribbling) or passing it

between teammates. Disruptive physical contact (foul) is not

permitted and there are restrictions on how the ball can

be handled (violations).

Positions

Point Guard• Usually the

fastest player on the team, organizes the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time.

Shooting Guard

• Creates a high volume of shots on offense; guards the opponent's best perimeter player on defense

Small Forward• Often primarily

responsible for scoring points via cuts to the basket and dribble penetration; on defense seeks rebounds and steals, but sometimes plays more actively

Power Forward• Plays offensively

often with his back to the basket; on defense, plays under the basket (in a zone defense) or against the opposing power forward (in man-to-man defense)

Center

• Uses size to score (on offense), to protect the basket closely (on defense), or to rebound.

Measures of the Field

• A Basketball runway has to be a hard surface, flat, rectangular and free of obstacles, with 15 m wide and 28 m in length. The perimeter of the track

should be free of barriers to two meters away.

• The height of the first obstacle that is vertically on the track

must be at least 7 m in height.

• The field is divided into two equal halves separated by the so-called half-field line and a circle from the center of the

track, the center circle measuring 3.6 m in diameter.

• For each team, the field that contains the basket that

defends itself is called half defensive field and the field that contains the basket in which it intends to write down half field

is called offensive.

• On the sides are the children who are hoops to 3.05 m. in height and 1.20 m are introduced within the

rectangle of the game, they have to be fitted with tilting approved.

• Parallel to the bottom line we find the line of free throws, which is 5.80 m from the bottom and 4.60 m in the basket. The circle where the line of

free throws has a diameter of 3.6 m. The lines measuring 6 cm. wide.

• The three-point line is located to 6.25 m. (FIBA) and to 7,25 m. (NBA)

away from the basket.
